In 1976 Joe became a Charter member and co-organizer of the Mineola Junior Fire Department; which is known worldwide and was awarded the best Junior fire department in the State of New York. Throwing it back to the original Mineola Fire Headquarters. This Building was next to what is now the Davenport Press Restaurant. The building was known as “Firemen’s Hall” and was located on Main Street, built in 1890; 2 years after the Department was established. Firemen’s Hall housed the Villag administration as well. Firemen’s Hall was knocked down in 1925 when the department moved into the Jericho Turnpike Firehouse with the Village Administration. Thank you for the photo! #mineolafd #mineola #tbt #oldpic #history #oldfirestation
