MILCK  I offer music + storytelling in hopes to reflect your truth back at you. ❤️❤️❤️ Proud vessel of the #ICantKeepQuiet movement.

Say cheese! Last Saturday @plannedparenthood honored three 2018 champions of choice, which included @jennifersiebelnewsom, the @bigmouthnetflix crew (starring @nickkroll), and me. I'm grateful for the nod, and also want to point out the staff of PP are the true champions. They were the perfect company last Saturday, after the emotionally charged news with confirming Kavanaugh. I sang my angry song "I Don't Belong To You" to vent, and shared my own vulnerable stories of how planned parenthood was there for me through my years as a college student and broke musician. I'm so grateful that I had safe access to such important services like birth control, safe abortion, and papsmears. My life would literally be very different without the good old PP. Hey. You. I love you. And yea. You're enough. More than enough. So take a few moments off this weekend to do something just for you. OK? Like a bath. Or a face mask. Or Journaling at your favorite cafe. Calling your middleschool bestie. Getting a puppy. Or dancing at a local dive bar. Whatever floats your boat, you know? The fight for equality will be there waiting. Take a moment to be joyous. Cause joy is a sexy form of defiance.

Consider this your friendly Monday reminder that we've got what it takes to tackle whatever this week throws our way. 🐯 #powertothepolls #resist #ICantKeepQuiet #onewomanriot #milckpoetry #motivationalmonday #motivationalquotes

Part 2/2: Alright, gentle rebels. Kavanaugh is one step closer to getting confirmed. This is going to be an intense process for a lot of us. I'm heartbroken. But I refuse to get lost that in anger or despair. I am going to focus on the power of the people, and how we can keep moving forward. How we can keep calling our Senators. When I was in DC yesterday, I was surrounded by countless brave and strong individuals that shared their stories of survival with me on stage. We were surrounded by men and women supporting their message. I had meals with political activists doing tireless and awe inspiring work. Senator Susan Collins may be voting “yes” on Kavanaugh, but believe me, this will only serve to motivate voters to flood the polls come November. Are you one of those voters? If so, I know you'll agree, we are watching. We will not go back. We will make our rumbling roar of defiance feel heard. Thank you @moveon, @womensmarch, and @aclu_nationwide, and the countless other organizations and individuals for making this possible. Thank you to the survivors who came onstage with me. Meet @amandangocnguyen, 27 year old Noble Peace Prize Nominee for 2019. We were both in town for #unga, and met up for some dinner to discuss politics, art, and life. And of course the obligatory Instagram photoshoot with a chubby dog statue. This woman inspires me so deeply, as she fights tirelessly for sexual assault survivors, and has passed 19 laws in the past year and a half with her team to empower survivors. Her ability to be empathetic and intelligently strategic impresses and inspires me. During this intense week, I chose to think of Amanda and all the other activists who are doing good. @risenow.us is her org, and I am an adamant fan and supporter. Check out what she's up to! It's INCREDIBLE. She is proof that we each as individuals have the power to create massive change. #icantkeepquiet #sisterhood

How is everyone feeling after this week's intense unfolding of events surrounding Dr. Christine Ford and Judge Kavanaugh? Ive felt enraged, I've felt hopeful, I've felt suspicious. As I process all the feelings, I am reminding myself to look up at the positives: Survivors are rallying around each other, citizens are calling their senators, and the public is paying attention. I think of the gorgeous defiance that we are utilizing as a civil right. That's beautiful. Much love to you all. Hope you're taking time to unwind and breathe. Then, once we've rested a short while, let's keep fighting. ACTION ITEM: I'll post in my stories numbers of the senators who are on the fence, who we need to be calling. Let's put on the pressure.

Dr. Christine Ford is currently undergoing the hearing to speak her story. To stand up to #StopKavanaugh. Survivors from all over the country are also going to DC and local senators' offices to share their stories, and to urge our government officials to create a culture to protect us. To LISTEN to us.
.
When people doubt the credibility of a survivor's statement because it took him/her years to come out, I ask those people for more empathy. To at least listen. Both sides deserve to be heard.
.
It took me 10 years to realize that my experience was not my fault. It took 10 years to realize my story was one of abuse. I'm so glad I took the time to process, and tell my story when I was ready, through my song Quiet. It took me years to articulate those lyrics. I told my story my way, in my time.
.
So today, I empathize with all the people bravely standing up for their own reclamation of their lives. I think of Dr. Christine Ford, and all the other survivors out there. None of us know what truly happened, but I am willing to hold space and witness with respect.
.
So, until we all understand what has happened, and that both sides have been heard, I say we stop trying to push Kavanaugh to the finish line. I say we take our time to really understand who we are considering for such an important position in our government structure.

Tomorrow I'll be performing at the United Nations’ #unga #HeForShe IMPACT Summit. So so so honored. I want to share this moment with you! Soooo you can tune in live tomorrow at 950am ET at HeForShe.org/Livestream. I'll be kicking off the event singing "Quiet" to leaders of states and movements. I really look forward to sharing my musical perspective, and listening to these dedicated civil servants speak about their efforts to advocate for the #HeForShe movement. 🙌🏼🙏🏼🤗

Last night a student in the audience at my show at Washington University of St Louis asked, "How do I find out who I really am? How do I find myself?" I loved her question, because that question is so relevant, even after we think we have found ourselves.
.
I told her and the rest of the audience that giving ourselves the gift of time is a great way to getting in touch with ourselves, especially in our modern society, which is always seducing us for our energy and attention. People who take time to question their motives and visions are the ones who are able to better design a life that fits them. I explained that even if it means waking up 20 minutes earlier in the morning to spend some time journaling or going for a brisk morning walk listening to your favorite music. I told her that I also surround myself with friends who are constantly pushing themselves to grow, and when we meet up, we talk about our brags, gratitudes, and desires. We go deep.
.
I went back to hotel room still thinking about her question, as I think there are so many ways to get deeper with ourselves. What suggestions do you all have for this awesome student on her adventure of self discovery? ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The wonderful Jason Mraz, who I got to open for a few months back (as you can tell from this photo, I was feeling all sorts of joyful singing with him), just released a music video "More Than Friends" with @meghan_trainor a couple days ago, and I love it. Congratulations @jason_mraz! Have you seen it?
