The view of the Almudena Cathedral from Las Vistillas park is amazing. Madrid, Spain. 🇪🇸 Even though the temples usually have the East-West orientation, the Almudena Cathedral was oriented towards the north because was part of the architectural complex of the Royal Palace that the King Felipe V ordered to be built in 1738.

The ruin bar / pub is a popular style of pub in Budapest, Hungary.

The ruin bars were born because there was an agreement reached so with very affordable rents, old abandoned buildings and apartments could be used instead of been demolished.
In the picture the Szimpla Kert, the first ruin official pub in Budapest and the oldest one. The pub was born with a marked punk identity, from the ruins of the communism has remained like that.
Here you can eat a cake, smoke a hookah, have a cocktail, eat hamburgers or attend to a concert among many other activities.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest, Hungary spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest. It was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Hungary. It was opened in 1849.

In World War II, the bridge was blown up on 18 January 1945 by the retreating Germans with only the towers remaining. It was rebuilt, and it reopened in 1949.

The bridge is closed to traffic during the weekends of the summer months and on some ceremonial occasions. On those days it is only pedestrians and cyclists that are allowed to cross it.

The idea of building a permanent bridge over the river Danube in order to bind the two towns, Pest and Buda facing each other, derived from Count Széchenyi István. He was a theorist, writer and politician, and one of the greatest statesmen of Hungarian history. In the winter of 1820 he was not able to cross the river due to the heavy ice breaking and so he could not attend his father’s funeral. This was the moment when he conceived the idea of a permanent bridge.

The capital city of Hungary is known to be one of the world's most beautiful cities. Now cut in half with the Danube but prior to the formation of the city now known as Budapest, there were two cities actually separated by the river into their comparably and aptly named parts: Buda and Pest.

Buda (from Pest) in this picture is where all the old history of Budapest takes place. The most famous visiting spot in Buda (Western Budapest) is the district known as Castle Hill, home of the Royal Palace and the Fisherman's Bastion.

The Shoes on the Danube Bank in Budapest is a memorial to honour the people who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II.
The monument is located about 300 metres south of the Hungarian Parliament and gives remembrance to the 3,500 people, 800 of them Jews who were shot into the Danube. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. It represents their shoes left behind on the bank.

St. Stephen's Basilica, Budapest, Hungary. View from the Zrínyi Street.

In reality the building does not have Basilica form and in its place has a Greek cross floor plan. Is the largest Church in Hungary, it can house more than 8500 people. Inside you can find the mummified hand of St. Stephen, first King of Hungary.

If you are fan of films, Alan Parker, director of the film, "Evita" chose this cathedral to shoot the scene of the wedding of Madonna and her beloved Perón.

Also if you are fan of Real Madrid Ferenc Puskás was buried under the dome of the St Stephen's Basilica.

Spending a few days in Budapest, Hungary.
In the picture the Hungarian Parliament that is the country's largest building and the third largest parliament building in the world. Some crazy numbers: 691 rooms, 10 courtyards, 20 km worth of stairs, 365 Gothic turrets, 88 statues and about a million volumes at its own library.

On the other side of Plaza de España you can see two of the most representative buildings in the city.

Torre Madrid (142m) built between 1954 and 1960, that was for some years the tallest concrete building in the world, and until the end of Torrespaña (1982), the tallest building in Spain. Also, the tallest building in Europe until 1967. Inside there is currently a luxury hotel and apartments.

Edificio España (117m) (1948-1953). The building, designed as multifunctional, housed the Crowne Plaza Hotel, a shopping center, apartments, and offices until the beginning of the 21st century. After its sale in 2005 and a process of rehabilitation of the facade, since 2012 the building was closed without intended use. It was later bought by the Wanda group and sold in 2017 to the Rui Hotels that is now responsible for building a large hotel, which is scheduled to open in summer 2019 with more than 550 rooms.

Plaza de España, Madrid
The view from the VP Plaza España Design shows how green is Plaza de España next to Parque del Oeste. There is a project to join these two zones that are now separated by a road that will start this fall.

On the left side you can see the Casa Gallardo, one of the most outstanding examples of modernist architecture in the city. Inside you can find the restaurant Club Allard with two Michelin stars.
On the right side the Monument to Miguel de Cervantes. The figures of honor in the monument represent Cervantes, seated under a pedestal, with the bronze statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza riding respectively on Rocinante. Crowned with the globe of the world and the five continents, allegory of the spread of the Spanish language throughout the world.

Calle Leganitos & Fomento, from the VP Plaza España Design is one of the oldest streets in Madrid.
Formerly irrigated by the fountain of Leganitos and its stream and area of Moors with orchards in the period of Muslim Madrid. There is information of this street since 1612.

The fountain of Leganitos disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century with the creation and urbanization of the Plaza de España.

Without much publicity Calle Leganitos has become now a small Chinatown with a lot of Chinese businesses.
