I went on my first backpacking trip last week to shoot the Milky Way. This was outside of my comfort zone, shooting in bear country at 3am. .

Two months of planning went into this shot. We applied for a wilderness permit to camp out here and were by ourselves. @jessicatallmanphotography & I hiked 8 miles and camped in the back country for 2 nights. Thanks Jessica for making this image a reality. What an adventure!

Do you have any quirky vacation traditions? I make it a priority to find the best ice cream every day. Calories don’t count when your on vacation, right? 😄🍦

When I travel, I try to experience the location as a temporary local. This concept comes from one of my favorite travel authors, Rick Steves. .

The moment I knew I was San Diego bound, I reached out to the talented @itsadogslife5 . I’ve been wanting to visit John and shoot with him since I started following him on Instagram a few years ago. His dog Rocket is adorable and his love for the beach matches mine. John cleared his weekend to show me a few of his favorite local spots. He was so sweet to drop everything and shoot two sunsets with me!🌤📷

The long weekend allowed us to explore and get lost in the beauty of our own backyard. As we were driving to our hike, we were enchanted by the trees and fog. In an effort to step outside my comfort zone, I made a snap decision to pull over. Sometimes I get caught up in the destination, so I’m glad we detoured for this one. .

Safety first. Please use extreme caution when shooting any road photos. This was a highly trafficked area and cars were driving much faster than the speed limit. We relied on sounds, lights and each other to maintain the ultimate safety for this shot. No tripod or long exposures were made at this location 😉

12 miles, 29,000 steps, 2,400’ elevation, 23lbs of camera gear, 4 waterfalls, 15 newts and 3 banana slugs.

How did you spend your holiday? We started our adventure late afternoon. We avoided the morning crowds on the trails and enjoyed the falls for 3 hours before our return hustle out in the dark. We managed the return 5 miles in 95 minutes! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️

During last night’s sunset I saw a skunk at the beach and a woman playing a conch shell. The tone of the shell was oddly magical. What unique things have you experienced lately that made you stop and think “that’s a new one?” 🐚

In the winter, I arrive to my photography locations with just moments to figure out my composition before sunset. With daylight savings and spring, I’m arriving early so I can scout and assess where I want to make my exposures. This particular evening we enjoyed the beautiful golden glow as the sun lowered beneath puffy clouds and it was magical. Thanks @niravthakorphotography for spontaneously shooting with me! ⛅️📷 #viaadventure

The best time to explore Yosemite Valley is when everyone is asleep. This was my first time visiting in the spring and it was breathtaking! 🌷🌸 #viaadventure

Happy Friday! This is one of my spots to check out on my way home from work. It feels like I’ve won the lottery when the tide is low at golden hour! It is a bonus that the local fisherman wave hello to me. 👋🏻 .

It isn't everyday that a sailboat runs aground on our beach. ⛵️

I saw the boat's mast lights oddly close to the shore of Linda Mar beach on Saturday night. Sunday the beach was swarming with curious visitors. Several people approached me and the best comment was "I heard the captain wanted Taco Bell before heading to San Diego." Shot with:

Have you tried snowshoeing? This was my first time and I’m all in! It was a great workout at 9,905' elevation and I took photos of the mesmerizing Dream Lake in the Rockies. Thanks to Hunter @hunterbibb, Zach, and Joey @joeytd4 for the great company on the trail. It was great chatting with the talented @calebs.captures too! Thanks @uhmanda85 for hosting us in your lovely home.

Breakfast is my favorite mealtime. What’s yours? I love waffles, French toast and pancakes. 🍌🍩🍳

Who else is thrilled about daylight savings? More time to shoot after work! 🙌🏼 This was one of those sessions that made my heart pound because the waves were splashing high and I was nervous about my camera going for a dip. I was watching each wave approaching very carefully so that didn’t happen.
