Here's a turtle for you! And today we're off to start our journey on the Gibb River Road, a famous unsealed road in the northern outback of Western Australia. It's dotted with natural wonders and I can't wait to see them for myself! Off we go....

This is a Trochus Shell that has been polished and carved by Bardi Jawi artisans from One Arm Point (or Ardyaloon) in the Dampier Peninsula. These shells are sustainably harvested from the reef and also grown in their local hatchery. The locals eat the snail and they used to export the shells for button making up until the shell button market dropped a few years ago. Now tourists like me purchase them as a keepsake of their time here. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸšThe One Arm Point community is a really fantastic place to visit and we spent a long while there enjoying the sea creatures in their hatchery, watching the rushing tides and swimming in the clearest saltwater I've ever seen! ๐ŸŒŠ

The amazing red cliffs of Cape Leveque at sunset. This photo is straight from the camera, completely untouched - they really do blaze that brightly! Cape Leveque is a wonderland in the Dampier Peninsula of Western Australia. These cliffs are sacred to the Bardi people and the aboriginal name for this area is Kooljaman. It was a privilege to stay here and we enjoyed our time walking the beaches, snorkelling the waters and sleeping under a sea of stars! ๐Ÿ’•

Today we ventured by seaplane to Horizontal Falls in the Buchaneer Archipelago. Described by Sir David himself as one of the world's natural wonders we certainly weren't disappointed! We got to see them from the air and go on an adventure ride through the falls on a pretty impressive speed boat - woah!! These impressive falls are created by rushing water from the super high tides of around 11 metres at maximum voltage. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Cape Leveque. Imagine white sandy beaches backed by red cliffs and fronted by turquoise waters dotted with breaching whales. Imagine sleeping under a billion trillion stars, so far from anywhere that no light pollution stains the sky. Imagine walking into crystal clear pools and discovering an underwater world of anemones, coral, tropical fish (including clown fish!) and the biggest conch snail you've ever seen! Cape Leveque was magic to the senses and we thoroughly enjoyed winding down in this piece of paradise. ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‹๐ŸŒ•๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿข๐Ÿš๐ŸŒŠ

A grumpy turtle! ๐Ÿ˜† We met a little green turtle yesterday at One Arm Point in the Dampier Peninsula. She was being cared for at the local hatchery and seemed to like my camera lens an awful lot (I got some nice photos on my 'good' camera!). We've been out of phone and wifi range the past two days and now we're in Derby for a trip to Horizontal Falls, then it's on to the Gibb River Road to see some of this countries most remote wonders! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿข๐Ÿ’™

This was my yesterday. We walked on, in and over beachside rock formations and caves, marvelled over perfect shells and strange sea creatures, spotted breaching whales and rolling dolphins, got attacked by protective mumma oyster eaters, and watched the sun drop and the moon rise in a perfectly timed cosmic dance. ๐Ÿ’™ We're heading off grid for a few. See ya on the other side with more tales from the North West. ๐Ÿ˜€โœŒ๐Ÿป

Today was spent walking isolated beaches, exploring rockpools, scrambling over boulders, ducking into seaside caves, and having little cat naps in the northern Australian winter sunshine. During lunch we watched humpback whales breaching in the distance and making some mega splashes! Yeah, today was a good day. A very good day indeed! ๐Ÿ’™

Flying into Broome this afternoon the ocean looked like the work of a contemporary painter! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ

I'm heading off on a grand adventure friends! I'll be wandering around outback Western Australia for the next three weeks and I hope to bring you lots of stories from this remarkable place. I'm so excited and ready for some wilderness time. Let's go! ๐Ÿ˜€โœŒ๐Ÿป
