Wow what a day yesterday was. My ladies showed out. As a coach being there for my athletes is all I want to do. Make them stressful. It showed yesterday all my ladies but PRs. Lets start with @daisynadamas this young lady hit a 50 pound meet pr. She smoked a 282 squat but take a step before the rack call so would have been 72 pounds. She has really came along way with in just a few months. She is now going to prep for the drug tested worlds. Next @carriealthoff would added 17 pounds to meet total with a elite total at 132. We only had about five weeks to prep for this meet. She also had so many changes with form I’m super happy with how she handle it. We have a long off season she will be over 800 soon. Next @candycandelora wow she killed it. She had a few calls on squat that cost us 40-50 pounds on her total but we can’t help judging it happens. She had 11lbs Pr in bench and deadlift she has some big numbers to in her. Can’t wait to get back to work. Last but not least @jfarlo I’m super happy with her she hit 52 meet total with being her 3rd meet in 5 months that’s tough to do. She had like 20 more pounds in her total. I’m so happy of my girls you have no clue. The best part is these ladies don’t know each other until the meet and the way they all came together and cheered each other as a team would it amazing to watch. I love this sport. My sexy lady was at the booth all day while I coached she held it down like a true OG. NOW MY BOYS TAKE OFF #marinopowersystem

#sumoTip... this movement is set up to improve hip strength, hamstring and also helps with mobility. I highly recommend this twice a week 3 sets of 10. Make sure to drive your knees out hard. Sumo learning anyone? Here we have two videos I will cover as much as Ig will let me write. Lets start will video of the left hand side. Starting with my hand down, chest over the bar, back rounded over the bar hips to far away from the bar. My head going back as I move the bar. If you watch closely my shoulders are moving up and back as I move the bar. Which will make my range of motion longer when it doesn’t have to be. (Key is to get have the bar as close to ground as possible) my bar path is going up then at my knees it has to go over them Bc my knees are to forward last I have to pull bar back into me. Imagine doing that with 500/800 pounds SMH... The head can finish back right that as long as your shoulder and chest don’t go with your head. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Now the right video. Soooo pretty... My knees are out so the bar can move in one path. My hips are close to the bar which allows my bar path be vertical while activity glutes hamstrings, quads. My chest is behind the bar along with my shoulders. My head position is lock into one place which helps my back not round. Upright back. If you watch closely the bar on the right travels a lot less then the bar on the left which is HUGE IS THE SUMO PULL... My hips a perfect inline to where I don’t have to pull them through it’s just standing up. We all remember the term (hump the bar) while I don’t think that’s necessary is your hips are lined up right. I hope this video is helpful. I want to help people understand how important the starting position is during a #SumoDeadlift. So here we have two pictures of me in the sumo stance. Lets start with the one of the left hand side. I will list of a few reasons why it’s wrong.. I will start with the head down..................
1st problem the head is facing towards the ground which I see in a lot of sumo pullers now a days. Why is this bad??? This may help with speed of the floor but how many of you can rip it off the floor then (boom) hit a wall right above the knee ... well that’s a part of the reason why. Moving on to problem number 2 my chest and shoulders are yet again facing right into the ground. This will also make it faster off the floor. (Boom) I hit the same wall right above my knee... problem number 3 my back is rounded like a mofo which yet again makes it faster off the floor (boom) I hit the same wall.. wtf??? Problem number 4 my hips are far away from the bar. Yet again helps with speed off the floor (boom) I hit that wall again wtf is wrong... well this is why I telll all my athletes speed doesn’t mean everything.. why tho micah? Well it all start with the bar path and your leverages. The sumo pull is made to make the range of motion and short and smooth as possible if the Bar path is off the lift won’t happen. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Now on to the right picture that looks so pretty not just me but the body position. I’ll make this real easy to understand...
1st my head is up and behind the bar just a tad. 2nd My shoulder and chest is also up and behind the bar a tad... 3rd my back is upright perfect. No rounding not over the bar. Just a tad behind the bar. 4th my hips are close to the bar, knees are out of the way. My hips are high enough to activate glutes hamstring and quads which allows a stronger pull. All of this comes back to the BAR PATH.. to get the bar from point A to point B in a perfect line. Think about if 500/600/700/800/900 pounds goes in a perfect line prolly would be easier to move vs take that weight forward then back.. right? I can only write so much.
