I'm not a huge resolutions person (at all), but I really love the beginning of the new year. I love looking back at what I accomplished in the last 12 months. I love looking through the images I've created and the stories I've been able to tell. And finally, I can enjoy looking at my images. As an artist, it can often be hard to find that appreciation in the moment. (Especially as I ease back into shooting digital work again!) I'm often caught up in the editing, seeing the flaws and fixing the mistakes. It takes time and space before I can look at my recent work and see the beauty. And that strikes me as something that rings true for MOST THINGS.
Time (And space), can make the hardships we faced seem less hard. It can make the anguish that we felt over certain wounds feel less painful. It's basically an instagram filter for our minds. And it allows us to reflect.
But what I really love comes after my reflection. I don't simply see my flaws anymore. I see areas that I can grow and improve. I see opportunities in my work. And beauty. And I start making lists of things I want to try, or shoots I want to style. It's invigorating!
Anyway, that was my long and rambling way of saying I'm excited for things to come.
