An Open Letter to Mr. Capone,
My beautiful little black and white speckled poodle, how tiny you were when I laid eyes on you. You fit into the palm of my hand. Telling me you were going to be my little boy that I could take everywhere with me, little did I know that you would sprout legs as long as Wilt Chamberlin and look like a little black sheep. You were no longer my little purse dog, but look at you! You were my beautiful little boy that grew up to dart, run as fast as a greyhound playing at the dog park and pony trot your way through all your walks just to show off those long legs.
Your eyes light up like little black pearls every time we laid eyes on one another. So attentive to my every need, emotion and knew exactly what to say with one look without ever saying one word. Your howls and half-barks crying injustice when one of your brothers or sister had THAT TOY YOU WANTED. THAT BONE YOU WANTED and it was just not fair that they had it and you didn’t. It’s okay baby, mommy will fix it and I could always do that, until this weekend. Mommy could not fix your fluid on your lungs or the on-going seizures and the tumor on your brain.
You were through everything since Mommy’s time in Foster Care, through getting my Bachelor’s and my Master’s Degree along with all of the valleys and mountains we climbed! Wow did we go places, but always finding your ways back into my arms, my constant. This time, Mommy had to be there for you.
You were more that Mr. Capone. You were Pony-Macaroni, Pon-Pon, Poo Poo, Ca-Poo, Mr. C.Poo, The best hugger and kisser in North Hollywood, Orange County and recently Long Beach, Poodle-Doodle, Pony, brother, son, grandbaby and your newest title, big brother. When we found out I was pregnant, you knew before we did. Taking turns with your sister and white poodle Cupcake Dior incubating the growing human inside Mommy’s Belly. Walking to every bathroom trip at night lying in front of the door, checking on my every five minutes between the bedroom and when baby kept me up with nausea on the couch overnight. You knew what your next role would be and you were perfect at it, Baby loves you too.
