Fresh out of heat-treat, this little smith has got some grinding to do. ✨✨✨✨✨✨

Forged out a stainless wootz blade today. Possibly one of the toughest materials I’ve forged a blade from, to date. Here are a few looks at the blade. First, post-forging. Second post profiling in prep for primary grinding before heat-treat.

From a funny chuck of steel that I almost completely messed up, to a forged blade, to something with an interesting pattern. Thank goodness for happy accidents, that are more often happy than frustrating. You can watch entire transformation in the “Fixin boo boos” highlight on my profile.

I love seeing the pattern of the steel in the forge scale. Always a nice little bonus to the work.

Today’s a forging day and I’m gonna be doin some live streaming, so if you wanna watch if have any questions, I’ve got you!

Here’s a look at the Dragon’s Fire set. This is the first professional photo I’ve ever had done of my work! Thanks Jim of @sharpbycoop!

Here’s a closer look at “his” knife. It’s a 10” Dragon’s Fire Mosaic damascus Gyuto with forged integral bolster and recurve heel. The faceted-western handle is sculpted from black palm wood and features a black g10 and silicon bronze spacer and through-tang handle construction, complete with monogrammed silicon bronze pommel rivet. The damascus is comprised of 1080 & 15N20 high-carbon steels, and the blade features a bilateral, compound grind.

His and her’s, Dragon’s Fire 🐉🔥 mosaic damascus Gyutos. Both with Black Palm faceted-western handles. Time to build a pair or sayas for these beauties.

Apparently I could only capture good glamour shots of the presentation side, so that’s all you get😜 this is an 11” Turning Tides Damascus European Chef’s Knife. It features a forged integral bolster and faceted-western hand with through-tang handle construction, complete with silicon bronze pommel rivet (see previous post for that detail). I’ll get the rest of the stats up once I have ’em all.

Buh, nuh nuh nuh, nuh nuh, nuh nuh, HANDLE TIME! Faceted-Western, sculpted from an especially dark bit of maple burl. The tung oil and waxed finish really makes the figure pop! I’m really happy with the finished piece and look forward to getting it to it new home in Brasil!

Another Faceted-Western handle in the books. This is coat 3 of tung oil on dark maple burl.

Japanese-Cowboy handles comin along on this his and hers set of Gyutos. Facets are roughed in and now the next step is refinement with a 400g J-flex belt.
