Ravens are very clever, bigger than crows, and often alone. Edgar is a rehabilitated raven at the NHA Massabesic Nature Center in Auburn. Stop by to say “wonk” to him. A donation for his care and feeding will make him happy. He eats a rat or mice or quail, peanuts, hard boiled egg, fruit and more each day. Best estimate puts his age at around 18 or 20. #ravens #raven #corvid #nhwildlife #nhaudubon #birds #birdsofinstagram #nhbirds #nature #birdphotography National Audubon photo

Wood Ducks tend to prepare to migrate from NH in the Fall, gaining weight eating vegetation in the ponds and marshes, and practicing flying in small groups while navigating out and back to their homes among the reeds and brush. They generally formation fly in the early morning around sunrise and more frequently in the 1-2 hours before sunset. After having observed the flights over the last 5-6 years, it seems a few mature females call across the pond when the skies are clear of raptors, then small groups of ducks form up and take off together. Wood ducks will generally leave NH for the South by the end of October, with only a few stragglers behind. #woodducks #ducks #waterfowl #nhlakes #ponds #lakes #waterbirds #birdwatching #birdphotography #naturephotography #igersnh #igers_nh #nature #nhwildlife #visitnh #getoutside #getoutsidenh #getoutdoors #mindfulness narrative and photos by Walter Keane
