The first @PrimalKitchenRestaurants franchise opened its doors Friday morning and served up the first Grok-style breakfasts to happy customers. I’m thrilled for Tara and Tom Olson, our South Bend, Indiana, franchise owners and grateful for all their amazing work to get things off the ground. Check out my profile link to read all about their journey from Primal converts to entrepreneurs! To keep up with all things #PrimalKitchenSouthBend, give them a follow here: @primalkitchensouthbend1

We can learn a lot from dogs. Spend time in nature, run hills, change up your pace, explore, and enjoy it. I'm always happy to have our four-legged family member along--Shanti makes staying active fun and energizing.

Autoimmune diseases really throw the body for a loop. You’re attacking your own tissues. Your inflammation is sky high. What’s usually good for you—like boosting the immune system—can make it worse. You’ll often restrict eating certain foods that, on paper, appear healthy and nutrient-dense. You take nothing for granted, measure and consider everything before eating or doing it. Sometimes it feels like almost everything has the potential to be a trigger.

Is it true for exercise, too? Must people with autoimmune diseases also change how they train? Visit my bio link for the full article. #liveawesome 👊

Don't skip the warm-up! While I tend to rotate through a bunch of different exercises and movements, I almost always throw in at least a couple sets of bodyweight squats to get a workout started. Why is squatting so good for you? It increases bone mineral density, and makes you run faster, jump higher, and develop better running and biking economy. It’s a great functional strength movement, with plenty of opportunities for real world application. Squatting is one of my four Primal Essential Movements, and definitely the one that gets you the most bang for your buck if you're working on full body strength.

One cup of sweet bell peppers can provide your entire recommended daily value of Vitamin C and Vitamin A. Peppers are also a great source of Vitamin B6 and folic acid, which help to regulate homocysteine levels and digestive health. When I want a snack and don't have macadamia nuts lying around, I’ll cut up sweet bell peppers and dip them into @primalkitchenfoods mayo for a full range of nutrients, healthy fats, and protein. #liveawesome

Lift heavy things! Hex bar deadlifts provide a full body workout, and remain one of the best ways to improve your sprint speed. With these, I usually start with a 60 pound bar and 45 pounds on a side for a total of 10 reps. I’ll move up in weight incrementally from there, until I’ve reached my limit (sticking with 10 reps a set). The important part of course isn’t how much weight you're putting on, but keeping good form and safely pushing yourself to your limit. And of course, make sure you get in a good recovery (including a full night’s sleep) so you can come back stronger the next time. #liveawesome
