My absolute favorite view of Chicago even when it was 1 degree out ❄
‪----‬
I love this view. It makes something so busy, so chaotic, so hustle and bustle, and turns it serene, quiet, peaceful.
‪----‬
It reminds me of ourselves. We get caught up in the chaos of what is around us, it engulfs us, whether it be work, relationships, or just life itself. But, if we take a step back, look at it in an outside perspective, it turns into observing, rather than feeling obligated to react.
‪----‬
Just like the city, taking yourself out of it for a moment, we find that calm, tranquil point to just observe and breathe. 💗🙏

Had some amazing times and views in Arizona for the holidays ⛰💗😊
‪----‬
Also had the realization how similar golf and yoga and meditation can be and even compliment each other.
‪----‬
I golfed a little bit in high school but never really got it, what all the fuss was about. It took me finding yoga, an open-mind, and someone who is as equally passionate about golf @mattbrahm 💗, as I am to yoga, to understand it and experience it.
‪----‬
Again, it was all about your perspective of it, of anything really, that can alter how you experience something. Back then, at one point I had a coach who probably didn't think the world of me but to be fair I wasn't serious about golf, so I wasn't any help to that case of liking or mentoring me.
‪----‬
Because of that experience, that altered my perception of golf. Honestly, it made me think that people who golfed were serious and boring and were always mean (okay that last part was specifically aimed towards that coach 🙈)
‪----‬
But then when I found my passion, yoga, I found meditation and then I found a focus on changing perspective, on being open-minded. With this, I was able to see golf through someone else's eyes, through Matt's eyes, and found its tranquility, its beauty.
‪----‬
Similar to yoga, it really is just you out there, just you and your mind. You can get in your head and make your practice that much more difficult, or you can learn to let go, to be present in the moment, enjoy the game, take in the views, take in all of its beauty. 💗🙏

I had stumbled upon the cork yoga mat from @theurbivoresisters and thought it was as good a time as any for a new mat. I immediately fell in love with this mat when I got it. The mat was designed beautifully down to every last detail including their logo.
‪----‬
Besides the gorgeous look of the mat, I really put it to the test to see if it would withstand my usual practice of hot yoga. An avid fan of hot yoga, with the room heated to 90 degrees and the humidity level cranked up, I had rituals to prepare my previous yoga mat to withhold it from becoming a slip-and-slide during class.
‪----‬
If you've taken a hot yoga class, you've either done or seen this. My ritual included laying a towel precisely to line up on top of my mat and spraying it down with water in specific sections to provide a bit more traction, even though I would be soaking it anyways with sweat halfway through class 🙈
‪----‬
Finally finding a mat where I could leave all the accessories at home felt like a godsend. It was literally then just me and the mat, when I practiced. It was amazing how much traction I had. I felt so comfortable and at ease flowing through my practice, rather than white-knuckling my mat, so I don't face-plant in my downward dog.
‪----‬
On top of the amazing design and impressive traction, the mat itself is made of durable, eco-friendly material, making it tough enough for your practice but not on the environment.
----‬
For yogis, our mats are immensely important tools for practice, even feeling like they are apart of our bodies, like they become one of us, taking us through our journeys. I'm thrilled for how this mat has helped my practice so far and beyond excited for the journey that we will take together. 💗
‪----‬
Thank you @theurbivoresisters for creating such a beautiful mat and sharing your passion with the world 🙏

This has been on my list of things to experience forever now. Doing yoga in the @adlerplanet planetarium underneath the "stars" was unreal. It took yoga, something very familiar, and transformed it into a completely different experience.
There I was laying on my mat, looking up at the stars, the moon, the planets, and whole other universes, like I was transported from my mat and into outerspace.

The teacher had an interesting idea on how this type of class changes your perspective. In most yoga classes, you try to focus on looking inward, seeing how you feel on the inside, emotionally and physically. She mentioned how this class encourages you to take a look at your surroundings, still keeping you in the present moment, but noticing the outside rather than the inside.

It reminded me again how powerful perspective is, how taking something we are so familiar with, so comfortable with, and turning it into the unfamiliar, the uncharted territory, the new and exciting. 💗🙏

Merry Christmas from a place far from snow 💗🎄❄

There is a quote, " The quickest way to acquire self-confidence is to do exactly what you are afraid to do."
‪----‬
I wholeheartedly agree with this quote, which is funny, since probably five or ten years ago, I would run in the other direction, far, far away from anything that made me afraid.
‪----‬
‪Back then, I hated that feeling of fear. I hated that nervous, anxious, uncertainty that encompassed me when I was afraid. I avoided anything and everything that made me feel that way and at the time, public speaking was my sworn enemy. ‬
‪----‬
‪Now I had no idea I was facing my enemy when I signed up for yoga teacher training. Even at the time, though it should've been obvious, I didn't realize I was training to essentially talk in front and to a group of people for an hour or so straight. But there I was, so anxious and nervous, when I was called on next to practice teaching my fellow yogi classmates.‬
‪----‬
‪And guess what, I kept going up again and again, teaching a group, until eventually, I wasn't afraid anymore. I was excited 😊‬
‪----‬
‪That's what this photo represents to me. I had fear doing a handstand in front of the window, looking down from the 30th floor, feeling shaky. Then told myself, this is silly, and decided to keep doing it over and over until I felt confident in it, until I realized it was just an irrational fear.‬
‪----‬
Have you ever had a fear you would do anything to avoid? Maybe even wonder why you were afraid of it in the first place? Have you ever faced your fear straight in the eyes and challenged it? ‪----‬
I know it's a difficult thing to face them, but it is the only way to become comfortable and self-confident with them. I promise it's worth it.💗

So lately I've felt in a rut with my practice. The past couple of months I've finally gotten back into a rhythm and had my momentum going but for a few weeks here, I started to feel like I've just plateaued. I was seeing progress, my hard work paying off but then all of a sudden, it flatlined, like I was just in a limbo, not moving forward, nor backward.
‪----‬
That's when I saw something new to me, the zombie press (thank you @justthisyoga for the inspiration🙏 and thank you @mattbrahm for always indulging in my yogi playtime, if not having more fun with it than I am 💗😊) and decided to give it a shot. What was great about it wasn't the action itself, but it was how it made me feel, how it made me reflect on my progress. I realized how far I've come and to look more at the big picture, rather than day by day.
‪----‬
It was this balanced feeling of accomplishment and humbleness that led me to realize there is always something new to learn and if you continue to practice, there is always progress.
‪----‬
Have you ever had one of those moments where you just felt stuck? You had all of this momentum and then suddenly you just plateau. Maybe it was something in your yoga practice, your workout, your physical goals, or in life, at work, your career. You may not always see it, but I promise you, if you keep up, if you practice, if you persist, keep going, push through, you'll see results. You'll see you're hard work. I promise.💗
