Just thought I would share this awesome recipe that we use for salmon in our house. We found it on allrecipes a few years back and have resurrected it in the last few weeks. :) Blackened Salmon

2 tbsp ground paprika
1 tbsp ground cayenne pepper
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground white pepper
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
4 salmon filets, skin and bones removed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Mix all spices together in a small bowl. Brush both sides of filets with butter and sprinkle evenly with the spice mixture. Drizzle one side of each filet with butter.
Place butter side down in a large skillet over high heat for 2-5 minutes. Drizzle top with butter and flip to cook the other side. Continue cooking until blackened and easily flakes with a fork.

We ate this with steamed broccoli and jasmine rice (we like to keep it simple around here!).

The news about Robin Williams hits a little too close to home for me as the survivor of a suicide attempt. Mine came because of medication (birth control, that's why I hate the stuff) that I was on, but it can come because of many things: genetics, internal imbalances, medications, environmental factors, things that happened in someone's childhood, and many others.

It saddens me that there is such a stigma attached to mental illness that makes those of us that struggle scared of judgement or condemnation and therefore never seek help.
Please keep these things in mind, you never know what someone has gone through or what they are currently going through. They may look like they have it all together on the outside, but you never know what's going on internally.
Your words and actions matter more than you know and sometimes the smallest act of kindness or simply checking up on someone can save their life. Let them know that you care and their life matters.

Everyone's life has purpose: black, white, big, small, gay, straight, doesn't matter, everyone is valuable.

Study session after the kids have gone to bed. Along with being a personal trainer and Beachbody coach, I am also working on becoming Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified. I want to be the best I can be for my clients! Never stop learning :)

Embrace your journey, whatever it is. Whether it is fitness, walking through life with your children, finding your calling, whatever :) Embrace life wholeheartedly.

Life can seriously suck sometimes, but if you are always looking for the positives, the blessings on your journey (and there always are some, no matter how bad things seem), it will help tremendously. Focus on those positives and do your best to learn from the circumstances in your life. Make it a great day!

There is no magic pill, shake, wrap, food, or whatever the newest fad is that is going to melt away the fat! 😨😱 Sorry, there's just not. The only thing that will work in the long run is good old fashioned hard work and the right nutrition - a lifestyle change. Mental toughness. Determination and discipline to get it done. 👊

And, really, why would you want to take the easy way out? You get nothing from that, it doesn't carry over into any other area of your life. If anything, you will be looking for the easy way out in other areas as well. With the lifestyle change route, you get the added bonus of the discipline aspect carrying over, the increased energy is going to make you a better significant other, parent, overall person, you will have more confidence because you have seen yourself set and achieve goals (I could go on and on...).

On the road again! Headed home with lots of great memories from our road trip to Colorado. I have to sit in the back with these two rugrats to keep the fights at bay (ya feel me?!).
