Today is International Day for the Protection of Children, or #ChildrensDay, in Bulgaria and many other countries. Last month, I visited Bulgaria with @WeAreLumos, learning about the vital work that they and many other partners are doing to help make sure that children grow up in loving families where they belong. You can watch a small part of my journey above – and click the link in my bio to learn more about Lumos. I can’t wait to share more with you in the coming weeks! ❤️ #WeAreLumos #FamiliesNotOrphanages

#tbt It was one year ago when I traveled to Jordan in the Middle East🇯🇴 where I spent a few days with Syrian refugees. Women and mothers just like me, doing the best they can, for their families. I will never forget these women and their remarkable stories of strength and perseverance. Sending love to all my friends in Jordan. Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your country. ❤️🙏🌍✨

It’s a beautiful night. We are at the @thegr8khalid Concert with our kids and the mosquitoes are leaving me alone. Life is good.

“If you can walk you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing.” African proverb 🌼 So proud of my kids for their courage to perform Hamilton in front of a live audience. 🎤🎼❤️ #family #sing #dance #theatrekids #performingarts

Hi beautiful family💞 I wanted to share some special pics from my trip to Bulgaria this week with @wearelumos 💡✨⭐️ I met the lovely Lumos team in Bulgaria that have worked tirelessly to close institutions and orphanages for children. The focus has been the reunification of family, foster care and the prevention of children abandonment. I visited one of the last baby institutions. (I am not able to post any pictures, for their protection.) As I held these babies, I sang softly to them, and they returned my love by grabbing on to me with their tiny fingers. Pulling away from them was very difficult, as you can imagine. I enjoyed time with Lumos CEO Georgette Mulheir and Human Rights Lawyer Nadya Shabani. Strong, passionate, brilliant women dedicating their life’s work to improving the lives of children.💪👊 I marched through the streets of Sofia for equal rights of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. I spoke with these beautiful individuals with disabilities, and I was in awe of their wisdom and courage to represent disabled children around the world. After this trip, 7 flights in 6 days, I have committed my heart to the global mission of protecting our vulnerable children that exist in every corner of the world. They exist, and they need us. ❤️👶👶🏻👶🏼👶🏽👶🏾👶🏿 #love #children #family #wearelumos #wearethelight #pleasegive #beethechange #mama

This year for Mother’s Day, I visited the refugee camp in Ethiopia, Africa with @wearelumos . The majority of refugees are children, that made the long journey from Eritrea alone, unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. A young boy I spoke to, that is the same age as my son, told me how at the age of 11 years old, his mother was shot and killed as they tried to reach the Ethiopian border. He had no alternative but to continue on, without her. He now lives with a foster family in the camp. I also spoke with girls, the same ages as my daughter, who only have one change of clothes, that they wear everyday. When they wash their single change of clothes, they have to wrap themselves in an old blanket, for hours, while they wait for their clothes to dry. These innocent and vulnerable children struggle to understand their circumstances, and our world. They wait for weeks and even months to be reunited with relatives or taken in by a foster family. Lumos will soon begin vital work, with partners and government, to protect the thousands of children affected by human rights violations. To regain some of their dignity, and be given the protection and support of a loving family. My deepest respect goes to the people of Ethiopia, who with already limited resources, have taken in and offered refuge to the Eritrean refugees. If you wish to support the Humanitarian efforts for refugee children in Ethiopia, please visit www.wearelumos.org to make a donation. #refugees #humanrights #activism #socialjustice #dignity #children #family #protect #peace

In honor of #mentalhealthawareness month, I wanted to share with you some pics from last week’s Google Conference. I stood in front of a room of 500 executives from around the world, and shared my story. I had decided weeks before that the anxiety and fear I felt were not going to stop me from sharing my messages of love and hope for the future. ✨Sending strength and courage to every single person that suffers from anxiety. May we continue to open the lines of communication so we never feel alone. ❤️🙏🌈 #xoxo @khanica
