from my friend @thetipsymuse. The #SwizzleRoyale event at @hellostrangerbar with @angosturahouse exceeded my expectations in every possible way! I began the evening as a newbie and came out with a firm grasp of the essence of swizzled drinks thanks to the eight amazing local bartenders who competed at the event, especially the two finalists: Maritza (@1anti7) and Jeanie (@jeanie.with.a.bottle). Inspired by these two amazing ladies, here is my own very first take on swizzle.

Penang Swizzle
.
1.5 oz Amontillado sherry, medium body
0.5 oz Smith and Cross rum
0.25 oz Talisker 10 year old scotch
0.75 oz lime juice
0.5 oz rambutan coulis
0.5 oz cinnamon syrup
1 mini bottle of ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters
Garnish: cinnamon stick, mint sprigs, rambutan shell

Method:

Add crushed ice to a brandy glass til half full, add all ingredients above except bitters, swizzle swizzle and swizzle a little more. Add more ice, and top with three dashes of ANGOSTURA bitters. Garnish with mint sprigs, cinnamon stick and shell of rambutan.

How to make rambutan coulis:
.
Rambutan is a tropical fruit from Malaysia with a hairy shell. To make coulis, scope the meat out, use fine sugar to coat the meat of the rambutan, add amaretto liqueur to taste, blend and strain. .

Lemon curd 🍋 (legit the tastiest one is by Barkers ? I think it’s called... any way got it from woolies.... buttery AF), butterfly pea tea infused with lemon thyme 🌿, maraschino 🍒liqueur , gin and lemon juice (shake + d strain then float on some lemon thyme b. Pea tea).

I’m working on some cocktails for an exciting new project and here’s a little sneak peek! This pretty pink drink is my new favorite cocktail to make for a group and features tequila, pink grapefruit, hibiscus, cucumber, orange blossom honey, and grapefruit oleo. 🌸🍊🌺

Pavan liqueur , gin (equal parts ) and sweet vermouth (1/4) -> stir with ice then top with tonic + a red wine 🍷float.

Garnished with green apple 🍏and blood orange 🍊.

Give it a stir with straw before drinking.

When I say new drinks, they have been on the menu for the last few months but I just haven't had time to stop by. Kevin @therealdiedrich is such a a genius, every time I learn something new from his cocktails, such unexpected ingredients but they play well together! Not to mention Kevin is super kind, has given me a few recipes in the past when I asked, always willing to share knowledge.

Leeward Negroni: Sipsmith VJOP gin, coconut washed campari, pandan cordial, bitters

For the first drink, Sapphire East is a new edition with additional Thai lemongrass, the Japanese curry is made in house with lemongrass and cumin. Served in a beautiful ceramic mug. .

I was blown away by the second drink. I have seen a few coconut washed negroni on Instagram but never tried on my own, This one, bitterness is upfront, but sweet with coconut fragrance and oily leg. It is so good, I have to close out the bills otherwise I may have ordered a second. By the way, where can I get pandan in San Francisco?
