Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Over the past 25 years the number of workers living in extreme poverty has declined dramatically, despite the lasting impact of the 2008 economic crisis and global recession. In developing countries, the middle class now makes up more than 34 percent of total employment – a number that has almost tripled between 1991 and 2015.

However, as the global economy continues to recover we are seeing slower growth, widening inequalities, and not enough jobs to keep up with a growing labour force. According to the International Labour Organization, more than 204 million people were unemployed in 2015.

The SDGs promote sustained economic growth, higher levels of productivity and technological innovation. Encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation are key to this, as are effective measures to eradicate forced labour, slavery and human trafficking. With these targets in mind, the goal is to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work, for all women and men by 2030. - United Nations Development Programme

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today. Be it for jobs, security, climate change, food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is essential.
Sustainable energy is opportunity – it transforms lives, economies and the planet.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is leading a Sustainable Energy for All initiative to ensure universal access to modern energy services, improve efficiency and increase use of renewable sources. - United Nations

‘The best way to prepare young future leaders is to expose them to other great people. Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.’ A few highlights from our first ‘Mentor Me’ session at Lusaka Girls Secondary school, facilitating conversations about career exploration, goal setting, importance of internship after high school, entrepreneurship and the Job market. Our focus is to broaden the horizons of high school students and to help them navigate diverse educational, social and professional situations. If you like to volunteer as a mentor please inbox your details and our team will follow up with you on the next steps of joining our pool of Mentors who will serve as role models and friends that students can look up to for guidance within and outside the school set up. We want to say thank you to the Management of Lusaka Girls Secondary school and the amazing girls for actively engaging in the session. #MentorMe #LusakaGlobalShapers #Dogooders
