Yesterday I wore makeup.
It was not the first time since the hurricane. But I think it was the first time since the hurricane that I did it just because and not to force me a smile. The days after a natural disaster are full of confusion. Your body and your mind are not programmed to suddenly face a full blast change in the scenery, without trees, water, electricity and -worst of all- no contact with loved ones. You feel deeply sad. Also you have the feeling -without really knowing it- that you are one of the luckiest ones, first, because you are alive, and then because you have a roof over your head, neighbors that share water and food with you and friends who help you to go on. In these first days after the hurricane, we cried when we saw each other for the first time after the scariest hours of our lives. Then we will laugh again just because we were together and then again worry for the friends and family members we knew nothing about.
So I was thinking of Evelyn Michelle @evelynmroman when I was able to read an email from @ipsy letting me know that they were suspending my monthly subscription because they didn't want to charge me for a glam bag that they couldn't ship. I took the chance to let them know that we were living the worst days of our lives as a country, that I didn't know anything about Evelyn - the one friend I would exchange makeup looks almost every day. I always agree with other feminist women who use makeup as a way of expressing ourselves and releasing stress in the demanding world women face everyday and everywhere. In my case wearing makeup helps me to deal with anxiety and sadness. It also allows me to connect with amazing, brilliant and beautiful friends who share my passion for feminism and makeup.
I asked @ipsy to please keep my bags and send them all once shipping was posible.
I would like to thank ipsy for the kind and heartfelt responses I got from their three representatives (Amanda, Kat and Katy) telling me not to worry, that they had us in their minds and that ipsy was making a money contribution for the relief. The same day I read their emails and I opened my mailbox and found out I'd received the Sept glam bag!
