Sometimes our weaknesses can become our strengths... and vice versa. My heart condition so often has felt like a burden - at best like an eternal limitation placed on my body, and at worst like an early death sentence. But *actually,* it is a gift that has made me stop taking every day for granted and given me a new life. And I’m so grateful for that.
The EKG waves on my arm are from the actual one taken the last time I was hospitalized, in Nicaragua. (The middle wave is drawn in.😉) I was surfing Playa Yankee in San Juan Del Sur with my cousin and some friends for hours - after dancing all night, working out all morning, and barely sleeping - and my heart went into atrial fibrillation (rapid irregular beating). It had just had too much, and I wasn’t taking care of my body or giving it enough rest or proper medical care.
Now these waves on me serve as a reminder to do what I love to do, but also to remember to take it a bit easier on myself. My zeal for life and desire to live fully AF can sometimes take me too far, and I make the healthy unhealthy. Life is all about the balance. May we all find that equilibrium and live healthfully there, peacefully chasing whatever passion you are lucky enough to find. •
