This photo was taken just a few days before my first competition. I have been getting asked more and more frequently if I am going to compete and the answer is, no. Not because of the sacrafice it took to get to this point but because a few weeks after the competition I was diagnosed with scoliosis.
I have had back pain for a LONG time, and thought it was just sore muscles, muscle imbalances from working out, sitting in a class room for hours, or being on my feet/bad shoes working retail. But come to find out it was something a little worse. I have an 11 degree curve in my lumbar spine, and 18 degree curve in my thoracic spine, and my entire spine is rotating clockwise. Lastly, there are bone spurs on my cervical spine resulting in lack of mobility. Some days the pain is worse than others, but I am learning how to manage. Doctors told me that working out actaully HELPED the condition from worsening. It is idiopathic, meaning no known cause. I will continue to workout, exercise, and build muscle, but I will NOT put my body under unnecessary stress.
My body is the only place I have to live, and plan to be around for a loooong time, and i'd rather do it pain free ❤ I share this to serve as a gentle reminder that no matter what appears on the outside, we are all battling internal battles. Your strength to carry on comes from within, not your circumstances ✌🏼🌻 #tbt #throwback #bikini #bikiniprep #thatpreplife #npc #npcbikini #healthylifestyle #healthyhabits #mybodyismytemple #fitness #sandiegofitness #empowerment
