"The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien was published eighty years ago today on September 21, 1937. It remains one of the most beloved books and has never gone out of print. πŸ“š

I nearly forgot that Sept. 17 is my 6 year calligra-versary! πŸ˜ƒ
Six years ago, I attended my very first formal calligraphy class with @yukimi_annand - it was also the first year I joined Instagram (in June), and both events changed my life. Yukimi's artistry, enthusiasm and dedication made me fall in love with calligraphy, and in my past six years on IG, I made some wonderful calligra-friends. I still feel like a newbie after 6 years because there is so much to learn and to always strive for progress. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from many wonderful teachers, and to share my journey with all of you here. ☺️

It's finally baking weather, so I decided to make some Hokkaido Milk Bread! πŸžπŸ’• It takes 4 hours from start to finish but it's so delicious and smells amazing too.
I did some Italic with gouache, and the handmade card is of course from the fabulous Meredith @fabulousfancypants. ☺️ More bread baking fun is in my IG story. Hope you all have a great week ahead.

Having one of those days when nothing you put on paper looks or feels right, but you keep at it anyway. Tomorrow is another day.

The kittens have been with us for a little over three months now, and they are almost six months old. Swipe ➑️ for some cuteness overload. Stop growing so fast, kitties! πŸ˜πŸ’•

Spoken nearly 80 years ago in 1938 and (sadly) still rings truer than ever today. 🌲🌲🌲

What DACA means to me. This country is built by immigrants. We are with you, dreamers, and we believe in you. πŸ’›

From John Muir's "The Yosemite," 1912. This took about 4 hours to write, but it was good practice using a 1.5mm nib. And John Muir's wonderful words make me want to visit @yosemitenps again. It's been too long!

I am taking advantage of my long weekend and doing as much Italic as I can before going back to work tomorrow. Nice to have a productive calligraphy weekend. ✍🏼

Today's quote is by the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909, Theodore Roosevelt. After becoming president, Roosevelt used his authority to protect wildlife and public lands by creating the United States Forest Service and establishing 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, 4 national game preserves, 5 national parks, and 18 national monuments by enabling the 1906 American Antiquities Act. 🐻🌲
