Day 2 #thefullinversion! #ShoulderProtraction #StraightArmDrills. (sped up)
Being able to isolate the shoulder blades or the scapula is very important for handstands and all inversions.
I’m showing two different series of drills here.
1. PROTRACTING and retracting the shoulder blades, or in other words moving them AWAY from or towards your spine.
I am showing first on hands and knees, and then option to go into plank pose: you want to isolate the shoulder blades- spreading them away from each other as if they were sliding towards your armpits broadening your upper back. .
.
It’s very common while doing this to also allow the shoulders to hunch up towards the ears try to keep space between the ears and the tops of the shoulders while you protract. Another common mistake is to bring the movement into the lower back try to really isolate the movement in the scapula area. And the third thing that’s very common is to bend elbows and straighten them again keep the movement as isolated as possible.
2. Take a block and hold it between your palms using some pressure to squeeze the block so that your forearms are pressing towards each other and the inside eyes of your elbows are facing each other. Begin by pressing the block away from you again spreading the shoulder blades a part away from the spine. Then bring the block back towards you retracting the shoulder blades back. Do this at shoulder height and then the hardest one is up above your head. You can gaze at the block because that’s where you will be looking in your hand stand. Press the block firmly away elevating your shoulders as well as protracting the shoulder blades.

Welcome to day 1 of #thefullinversion!! 🤸‍♀️🤸🏻‍♂️🤸🏻‍♂️🤸‍♀️🤸🏻‍♂️WRISTS/FOREARMS
.
.
Please go check out my amazing co-hosts! I will post a video in a bit, because let’s face it you can never get too much info on handstands!! ✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻CAMBERED hands or the ‘funner’ name ‘spidey fingers’!! GAME CHANGER!! I’m posting about this because it helps keep your wrists healthy. When you think about it your feet are not flat and rigid. They are contoured and pliable. You are able to shift your weight on all parts of your feet so that you don’t just topple over. So when you think about it why would you want your hands to be rigid it gives you much less ability to adjust your weight.
Cambered hands, or gripping of the fingertips and a slight give allows you to adjust for weight shifts. You want to press down into the pad of the index finger and pads of the fingertips but allow a little bit of lift underneath the knuckle joints almost like you’re trying to scrunch up your mat a little bit underneath you. It’s a bit of a pulling in.
The two right-hand pictures are very common patterns that are not ideal. The top right is rolling over onto the outer edge of the hand which happens when the elbows bow out as well. This puts pressure on the outer wrist and can eventually cause wrist and forearm issues because your forearms and wrists are not meant to take weight on that side.
The bottom is flat rigid hand which can also end up putting more pressure on the wrist.

Day 7 #LeotardLovies #lotus.
Ever since I saw @shiniyogi do it I’ve loved making this shape - a version of #pindasasa from the #Ashtanga #Primaryseries. It Illustrates #pratyahara The withdrawal of the senses inward. It’s a way to tune out the external voices, from society, other people, so that we are able to tune into our true nature, which is pure love. 🙏🏼💗

Take a deep breath in and exhale it out to bring your mind home to your body

You don’t actually have to do much at all to create more space in your body. You don’t have to do a fancy arm balance or an inversion. It’s just the practice of increasing and cultivating a deeper awareness of the present moment. The biggest tool in your toolbox for this is your breath and conscious breathing. The simple act of slowing down and equalizing your inhale and your exhale allows you to be more present and let go of the circus of swirling thoughts in your mind.
