Welcome to day 4 of the Emergency Contact Blog Tour!
This adorable book follows the stories of Penny and Sam, and their not-so-meet-cute relationship. Penny is adjusting to life in college, and Sam has other problems to deal with.
They exchange numbers and keep in touch over text, sharing secrets and becoming friends – all the while, eliminating the awkwardness that comes from seeing each other face to face.
#QOTD - do you find it easier to open up to people face-to-face or screen-to-screen?
The main thing I loved about this book was being able to see all the relationships. There wasn’t just romantic relationships, but there were friendship and kinship. All the tough times between characters set up this foundation for a character development that I didn’t see coming, which meant that by the end of the book I didn’t dislike a single character.
Even with the alternating POVs, I still felt like there was more detail and effort put into Penny’s side which made me feel like Sam was being pushed aside a little bit but when they interacted it was really very adorable and easy and just – the way you would picture the perfect modern twenty-first century relationship if relationships were purely screen-to-screen. (Who doesn’t want to talk about undead fruit and your life secrets?)
The pacing was pretty good, but it did start out slower for me and took a while to get to where I was expecting.
Overall, if you love a cute contemporary which is quick to read but still jam packed, this book gives you all that and more! .
