Immense sadness tonight for Notre Dame Cathedral. I allow myself to write this text having no direct link with my drawings, apart from two things : Middle Ages and patrimony.
As some people know here: I am medievalist. I studied in medieval archeology, my job today is the mediation and valorization of medieval heritage. I am passionate about this period. No, the Middle Ages wasn't a dark ages, I fight these ideas every day by working and drawing.
Obviously, there is worse in life. Nobody died. But it's terrible to see this monument in flame. Safeguard the heritage, love your heritage, it's so essential...
Only a few words from a great French historian, Jacques le Goff: "The Middle Ages only retained me because it had the almost magical power to disorient me, to tear myself away from the troubles and mediocrities of the present and at the same time time to make it more hot and clearer" (sorry for the bad traduction). Thank for La Cinémathèque Française for this picture of Charles Laughton in Quasimodo.
