Today's #12DaysOfFitnessChallenge is 75 side plank hip raises on each side. This is definitely the easiest move in this challenge by far. Got through it just like that! One of my proudest moments! 😝 Actually, it's because I just did sets of 25 reps in between doing my students' weekly reports at home. 😁 Today was the last day of school and we are off on Christmas vacation! Yay! Here's 6-year old Alice who super excitedly gifted me with a planner. She wrote on the inside cover that she loves fish. Well, she wrote I ❀️yu, and well, yu in Mandarin Chinese (depending on the tone) can mean"fish" πŸ˜„. She IS one of my sweetest and smartest students! she said she doesn't know how to spell my name so she just wrote my initials: R.N. And here we are in the 2nd picture making kissy faces LOL Oh, and the marks on my face are from my particle mask. Government just issued a red pollution alert. Today's #12DaysOfFitnessChallenge was 200 walking lunges. Since it was rather fun getting my students involved during yesterday's challenge (planks) with them counting as I held the plank, we did walking lunges around the room together to music from the Nutcracker. I'm not sure if we had good form but it was fun. We did till 70. The rest I did while walking along a hutong (small alley) on my way to grab dinner at a Christmas market near where I live. (I live in the old part of Beijing in the city center just north of the Forbidden City. It's a maze of quaint houses usually with courtyards in narrow alleyways. Really charming and people tend to be more relaxed and nicer.) Today's yoga practice: Some heart opening back bends to end my day in love. ❀️ From Codyapp's Fresh Start Morning Yoga series of Irene Pappas. Only 12 minutes. Pressed for time to do a longer one as it's late at night already and I would like to be asleep be 11PM. The various backbends really felt good in my back, shoulders, neck, and chest. 😊

Cooked a quick, simple dinner as I was by my lonesome. (Partner had band practice.)
Dinner was a simple tofu dish cooked in a bit of coconut oil with minced garlic, celery, diced tomatoes, and spinach, seasoned with cumin, paprika, and Mexican chili. Yes, no salt. 😬 I don't usually put salt due to my hypertension. Tasted good! The tofu was quite firm and already cooked in some way and came in the form of a narrow cylinder. There are sooooo many kinds of tofu here in China--all sorts of shapes, sizes, and flavors. Today's #12DaysofFitnessChallenge: 15-minute plank throughout the day. I started at work during rest period after lunch with some of my students trying it out with me and eventually with them becoming my timer as they counted to 60 for each hold πŸ˜„I only got 6 minutes' worth and the rest I did at home. This, so far, has been the most manageable of all the movements in this challenge. Tomorrow is 200 walking lunges. Yep, I'm checking beforehand now! Because I almost tried going for 500 V-ups when I didn't check! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Uhmmm... what exactly are walking lunges? Are they like forward lunges?

So utterly glad that it's not 500 V-ups! The Imperfect Yogi almost had me!πŸ˜‚ 150 split squats aren't so bad when I think that i was almost going to do 500 V-ups! πŸ˜… I did them in one go while watching TV. It helped to get my mind off having to do 150 each side (yeah, no mindfulness on this one) but I could still feel my glutes, quads, and hamstrings working, esp glutes. Contemplating on doing the 400 #bicyclecrunches for today's #12DaysOfFitnessChallenge on #codyapp . Well, let's #justdoit then! It was a full-packed day today so I didn't have time to squeeze bicycle crunches here and there. I had to do all 400 in one go at 11:30 PM but in sets of 20 or 30 or 50 till I got to 400 😳. Upbeat music sure helped--closing my eyes, too--but at one point I was wondering if my abs were still actually working! πŸ˜…I got all 400 in by 11:58PM.
