Did you know that December 10th (yesterday) marked the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The document, which "sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected," was first drafted on the Lehman campus. That's some Hunter/Lehman College history for you.

Lehman College Receives $1.1 Million Robin Hood Grant to Target On-Time Graduation Rates—The foundation awarded the money to the only senior college of @CUNY in the #Bronx to expand CUNY’s Accelerate, Complete, and Engage (ACE) program to Lehman. The program helps baccalaureate students complete their degrees in four years. The new program at Lehman also marks the first time transfer students with associate degrees have been allowed to participate in the ACE program. “Half of the students who attend Lehman come from families that make less than $30,000 a year. These students don’t have access to the ‘extras’ that so many people take for granted, the hidden advantages that make succeeding in college easier,” said Lehman College President José Luis Cruz. “But an education is the way to upward mobility for these students, so we’re thrilled that the Robin Hood Foundation is making it possible for more students to succeed.” Students that take longer than four years to earn their degree are at a disadvantage. They spend more money in school costs, lose those years of earning potential, and many don’t ever finish school at all.

Combining her passion for storytelling with cutting-edge computer imaging technology, Cécile Ragot, a graduate from the first cohort of students at the Lehman College and EON Reality Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Innovation & Training Academy, won a fellowship sponsored by Havas New York and NYC Media Lab to create an interactive history project on Governors Island in New York Harbor.

Ragot’s prize-winning project, titled “IslandAR,” premiered in September and allowed users of all ages to combine a piece to a puzzle at a station and or scan the puzzle piece using an app on smart phone at several specific key spots around 172-acre Governors Island, allowing visual images and pertinent stories to be uploaded, thanks to augmented mobile reality and geolocation applications. A busy film industry professional, Ragot even produced and directed a short film trailer about her project.
