Under the patronage of the President of the Council of Ministers H.E. Mr. Saad Hariri and in partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, the United Nations and the Lebanese American University (#LAU), the “North Pole Expedition, a walk for humanity” initiative was launched during a press conference in #Beirut, July 11, 2017.
Held in the #GrandSerail, with the great support of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Public Health Mr. Ghassan Hasbani, #LAUpresident Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra, and The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (@undp ) in Lebanon Mr. Philippe Lazzarini.
During the expedition Michael Haddad will be crossing 100km of the North Pole, a momentous and powerful statement given that Michael suffered a spinal cord injury as a child due to an accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down causing a complete loss to 75% of his mobile motor functions. Against all odds, Michael truly defied science and the medical world to develop unique walking patterns.
The medical, scientific and engineering efforts behind this project, in addition to their impact, and the exposure they provide on the importance of climate change awareness are “history in the making for humanity and our planet” concluded Dr. Jabbra.
From his end, H.E. Minister Ghassan Hasbani went on to praise those who supported Haddad, stating that “Michael’s dream of completing the expedition would not have been possible without the faith of those surrounding him, morally and financially, amongst those is the LAU who seeks, through its researches, to turn Michael’s experience into a medical benefit for all humanity”.
