Happy World Diabetes Day 💙 This year marks my 8th year of living with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an incurable, autoimmune condition that occurs when the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This means that the pancreas has no ability to produce insulin (the hormone that regulates blood sugar), therefore insulin must be injected into the body regulate blood sugar levels.
Today I think about the thousands of other type 1 diabetics who also had to go through a hard diagnosis, who know the struggle of living with an invisible disease that requires you inject yourself 4 times a day plus multiple finger prick testing.. But, I am always grateful to think about the incredible research that is always ongoing to find a cure, and the improvements in technology that make our lives a little easier. So, we remind ourselves that we have got to keep going and keep raising awareness and not let this define us💙
Also, a little top tip for any diabetic, find yourself a super supportive boyfriend who takes pictures of you injecting at the top of a waterfall trail...everything has its perks ⭐️ ❤️
