I have been on a bit of a journey with my mental health in the past year. And after taking some time off social media, I got the chance to reflect on issues that are way too apparent in our culture. Issues that we all relate to either consciously or subconsciously on some level, and one of the reasons I needed to take some time out.
Instagram, and particularly the beauty and lifestyle industry, is a breeding ground for insecurities. The perpetual myths whilst being sold this product and that product are terrifying.
I didn’t realise how much it was affecting me and how deeply lost I was getting within a world of judgement and the constant need for validation until I took a step back.
Wherever you are in the world and whatever you are going through right now, I want you to know that you have unlimited ability to create, to love and to care. You don’t need plumper lips, a slimmer waist or thousands of followers to do that, even though society sometimes makes you think you do. Those things do not and will not ever define you.
Find something away from your screen that allows you to breathe and truly connect with yourself. Something that brings you peace and grounds you.
Talk. Listen. I promise you are not alone.
