Young parents are slaying at the state capitol today speaking to policymakers about the Young Parent right to Education Act (AB 2289), which would ensure young parents have the support they need to parent their children with dignity and without having to sacrifice their educational goals.

You can support their work and push back against shaming narrative the fuel harmful stereotypes and create barriers for young families to reach their full potential. Go to: bit.ly/CLRJ_J4YF_BLOG

After powerful testimonios from survivors who were part of the Madrigal case, family members, Producer of “No Mas Bebés”, Virginia Espino and our very own Senior Policy Manager, Myra Durán, the County of Los Ángeles has FINALLY voted unanimously to publicly apologize to the countless women who were forcibly sterilized at the LA County USC Medical Center. Thank you to the Hernandez, Hermosillo, Orozco and Figueroa families for your incredible strength in sharing your stories and to Los Ángeles County Board of Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Hilda L. Solis for introducing the motion to support SB 1190 in the state legislature and to finally hold Los Ángeles County accountable for the injustices committed against our community. We will continue to fight for our families and communities until we can all live with dignity, self-determination and bodily autonomy.

Today beginning at 9:30am, the Los Ángeles County Board of Supervisors (see link in profile for livestream) will be voting on a resolution in support of SB 1190 and a formal apology to the mujeres that were sterilized at the LA County Hospital in the 70’s. Support those speaking on behalf of the resolution, including one of the plaintiffs of the Madrigal Case, Melvina Hernandez, by viewing the livestream of the meeting.

Supporting survivors of forced sterilizations is not only the right thing to do, but necessary to reaffirm the dignity and self determination of people who were denied their basic bodily autonomy.

Young parent leaders are working hard pushing against a culture and society that has tried to bury their aspirations, hopes, and dreams. Young parents challenge us to shift the way our communities approach youth sexuality and their right to parent their children within a supportive environment.

Can you help us raise $500 to make sure no one is left behind? Let's train, prepare, and support the next generation of advocates!
