Q: Why did you choose this major? 💬 A: I chose to major in Deaf Studies so that I can become fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). For a long time, I found myself very interested in learning the language as well as connecting with the Deaf community. When the opportunity presented itself to enroll in the program, I jumped on it. The Deaf Studies program has not only taught me sign language, but I am learning an abundance amount of knowledge on Deaf Culture, Politics, and Education for Deaf children and adults.
Q: How did this major impact you in your lifestyle? 💬 A: It made me more aware of the challenges other people face on a daily basis. Something as simple as communication is not accessible for everyone. It impacted my life by bringing me to a place of consciousness when it comes to others around me.
Q: What is one thing that left you inspired or motivated you to take this major? 💬 A: One thing that continues to inspire me in this major is the support I receive from my professors and friends. Learning another language is no easy feat. However, I am motivated to become fluent in ASL because it draws me closer to people, who often feel left out by the way they communicate.
