Can we talk about bodies for a second? Because as much as I adore the ART part of my job, I also dearly love the fact that the canvas I get to work with is the human body. It still blows my mind that people put such trust in me as to let me put permanent art ON THEIR SKIN. With that in mind, I would just like to clarify what I mean when I say that I am a body positive tattooer: In my practice, I do my best to make room and hold space for ALL TYPES OF BODIES. There are, of course, bodies that I won’t tattoo for reasons of health and/or consent. I, personally don’t tattoo pregnant bodies, drunk bodies, bodies under the influence of illegal/hard drugs, or bodies that would be put at risk by being tattooed.
However, when it comes to appearance and ability, I accept all bodies. Small bodies. Big bodies. Medium bodies. Fat bodies. Thin bodies. Black bodies. Brown bodies. White bodies. Every-color-in-between bodies. Male bodies. Female bodies. Neither gender bodies. Trans bodies. Bodies with full normal function. Bodies with limited ability. Older bodies. Younger bodies (over 18 though!). Bodies with scars. Deaf bodies. Blind bodies. Gay bodies. Straight bodies. Modest bodies. Skin-out bodies. And any bodies I forgot in this list.
The only bodies I really don’t like tattooing are mean bodies, rude bodies, and bodies who judge other bodies by what they look like. I want you all to know that if you come to me for a tattoo, your body is safe with me. Please never think that you will receive judgement from me for what your body looks like or its level of ability. All bodies deserve beautiful art on them if they so desire. Tattoos are for everyone. 🖤
Also, let it be known that I do not condone or wish to participate in the use of tattoos as a means to sell fitness programs, weight loss diets, thinspo, fitspo, or the elevation of one body type above another in value. That stuff has no place in my practice. So for all my lovely clients and their fantastic bodies:
Tattooer friends: feel free to share if you feel like I do about this. .
