“You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”-Anthony Bourdain
I’ve been thinking a lot lately of how I can leave my mark when I travel. While I try to give back whenever I can, whether that entails buying meals or giving money, I feel like I should be doing more…or at least trying to. After all, I’m taking away experiences, memories, photos, etc., isn’t it only fair that I contribute in some way while I’m at it?
Reflecting on my travels over the last few years, one of my most fulfilling experiences is the trip I organized to Guatemala in 2015. I spent 10 days volunteering in and learning about a rural community and working on community projects. I’ve had some amazing travel experiences since then with some of the best people I know and will never be anything but appreciative for them, but going forward I really want to incorporate more giving back into my travels. With this in mind, I’ve started planning a trip to Tulum and I’m currently looking into ways I can do some good when I’m there! Would love to know what you guys think or whether you have any suggestions ☺️.
On a photo-related note, those of you who are familiar with Porto will recognize this one from Praça da Batalha, which was super close to the Liiiving apartment I stayed in. Another big thank you to @liiiving for having me!
