@janet_evans’ impressions on being back in 🇰🇷 for the #WinterOlympics: “Almost 30 years ago, I touched down in Seoul, South Korea for my first Olympic Games as a swimmer representing Team USA.
Of all the magical things that happened to me during the Seoul 1988 Games, from meeting some of my idols to realizing my lifelong dream of winning gold for my country, one of most treasured memories is the warmth and enthusiasm with which South Korean fans welcomed us to their country.
This past weekend, LA 2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman and I touched down in PyeongChang for the 2018 Games. This was my first time returning to South Korea since the Seoul 1988 Games, and I am happy to report that South Korean fans' passion for the Games is as strong as ever!
South Korean fans were so excited for the Games that they gathered at the airport to cheer passengers as they cleared customs. Casey quipped, ‘I wish my office would greet me like this once in awhile!’ But that's the magic of the Games - a world coming together for an extraordinary celebration. It's a passion that is as contagious as it is timeless.
From the magic of the Opening Ceremony to the incredible performances of the world's greatest athletes, being here in PyeongChang makes me all the more eager to again welcome the world to Los Angeles in 2028! I am reminded that being able to show off the best of your city and watch the best athletes in the world compete in your backyard is a privilege unlike any other.
Wishing you all a magical Games,
