London Design Festival  London Design Festival celebrates & promotes London as the design capital of the world. #LDF19 14-22 September 2019

@fosterandpartners propose to build The Tulip alongside the Gherkin in London, it will be a 305.3-metre tall tower topped with a viewpoint and rotating gondolas. It will become the tallest structure in the City of London, for planning permission. To give you a real sense of scale of this building, you could pack 9 London Underground trains within one level of the concrete shaft. If approved, the tower could begin construction in 2020, with an opening date planned for 2025.

What do you think of this potential new addition to London's skyline?

This incredible photo taken by @nasa, shows a perfectly rectangular iceberg. It’s precise shape raises the question, is all design manufactured or is design intrinsic to our world and nature?

In the mid 1800s, Thomas Dickert spent 5 years building a 6m-high model of the Moon at The University of Bonn. The giant model was made from plaster and was based on drawings of the Moon by German astronomer Johann Friedrich Julius Schmidt. The study can be seen as a culmination on the fascination of the Moon which has pervaded European culture and science from the 17th century. The model was later sold to the Field Museum of Chicago where it was exhibited until the 1980s.

An earlier investigation evolving from #FelixCandela’s work with hyperbolic paraboloids. While the structural properties of a singular hypar are well documented, this 2013 pavilion of three coupled hypars in bent steel explored their collective structural properties.
