Meet Nisha Thavar, the managing director of the KZN Fashion Council.

When the KZN Fashion Council board advertised for a new managing director, they were looking for someone with sound business acumen.

And they got just that in Nisha Thavar, who took over the job in January, and as it happened, also had a real interest in the sector, having once gained a fashion design certificate.

She was previously in the corporate world in a number of roles, before becoming a consultant in commercial, strategic planning, procurement and customer development, working for a wide range
of major companies.

She knew when she spotted that KZN Fashion Council advertisement that given her business background, she could add value to the organization.#AFX2018 #AfricaByDesign #ProudlyAfrican #KZNFASHION

Meet designer Silomo Ntombela : Silomo Ntombela was born and bred in Durban. She will be exhibiting at the Africa Fashion Exchange from September 27-29. She attended Durban Girls College and went on to study film and media studies at the University of Cape Town.
In third year she shifted focus to fashion and film and never looked back. After landing a job with Miss Moneypenny where she learnt about designing and styling her career was kick started. She received a bursary from UKZN to study fashion entrepreneurship with the KZN Fashion Council. This, she said, helped her to understand the business side of fashion. After this she launched three shops – Silomo Boutiques - in Station Road, Morningside and Cowies Hill but quickly consolidated.
Today she puts all her energy in one shop that caters for the plus size market. More recently she is part of a collaboration of 7 designers calling themselves ‘Love Curvy’ as a pop-up brand. She wants plus-sized ladies to feel fabulous and confident.#AFX2018 #AfricaByDesign #KZNFashion #kznfc #AllRoadsLeadToAFX
