Bet ya wouldn’t guess this was a fridge clean out meal! 🙌🏼 I got home from an afternoon at the nail salon and then the pool with ZERO idea of what to make. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Out of potatoes. Very few veggies. But give a girl a grill and she can make it happen. 🔥 The key to making protein and veggies exciting is all in the SEASONING. I loaded these guys up with a couple of @primalpalate seasonings and man oh man... I want this meal on repeat!

I remember one of my first job interviews asked how I was creative. 😬 And my immediate reaction was panic. “I am logical, not creative.” I’m sure I made up some answer and I ended up getting the job but that question stuck out to me as a challenge. 🤷🏻‍♀️ How the heck am I creative? Well... the difference between 21 year-old KP and almost 28 year-old KP is astonishing. 😱 Two things make me feel super creative: PhD work and food. 🧠🍳 Am I still logical? Heck yes. #science But I take pride in my potential to solve complex problems and generate new knowledge... and create some pretty amazing meals like this one. How are YOU creative?

“KP... how do I make my abs look like everyone’s that I see on Instagram? Or do they flex for every photo?”

Of course they’re flexing for their photos. Not everyone... but the majority. Very few people have genetics to allow their abs to look rock solid 24/7. Very few people have the genetics to achieve a “six pack” and it takes very low body fat percentage to see it. So those pictures that are posted... people are not walking around like that every day. It’s not very realistic for you to make that your goal and you may be disappointed if that’s all you strive for (hint: make function a goal and you’ll be v happy). Social media is a highlight reel for many people. Some will do anything for a like or a follow. Including flex for every photo, pour an entire jar of nut butter on their food (only to scoop it off after), or loading their barbell so it looks like they’re lifting more than they are. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Just speaking in generalizations and referring to no one specific, but it’s important to understand that while social media can be incredible, real, motivating, and uplifting... it’s not ALWAYS the real deal. 😢 This plate def was tho...

ALRIGHT SO GUYS. Several people asked me if I still track macros. The answer is YES. 👍🏼 This may get a lot of hate in the foodie realm because “counting calories is obsessive” and “intuitive eating is king” and “Keto/IF/whole30/paleo/etc” is da bomb. Those statements may apply to some people... but remember how I’ve told y’all that we are all different humans with different genetics and wants and needs? 🤔 Oh yes. Correct. SO that means that counting calories isn’t obsessive for everyone. Intuitive eating isn’t for everyone. A meal plan is not one-size-fits-all, HOWEVER it may be what’s best for you. Pretty incredible concept, right? 🙌🏼 So how does one figure it all out? Trial and error. And it doesn’t have to have a label either. 🤦🏻‍♀️ If I put a label on the way I eat lately, it’d be, “Lots of fruits & veggies. Sweet potatoes errday. Occasional frosted animal crackers on froyo. Still hates beets.”

I’m KP. I’m a nurse, nursing faculty, a PhD student, a dog mom, a foodie, and a lifter. 🏋🏻‍♀️ I started this Instagram to keep myself accountable while trying to lose weight and get healthy. Yeah, I lost some weight (55 pounds) but I gained a whole lot more from creating this space (aka all of you 😘). If you scroll waayyyy down, you’ll see some OG food photos. 😂

My favorite lift is ze back squat. Preferably in reps less than 5. Definitely not anything with shoulders like this photograph shows. Not usually isolation work unless it’s for da glutes. Absolutely not bicep curls. Also yo... that’s Shane the Trainer. Yes, he’s just as disappointed in me as he looks.

My favorite food is sushi. 🍣 One day I will crush an entire sushi boat by myself. I will document this. Don’t worry.

Guys... I was pretty sad after my last farmer’s market trip. 👩🏻‍🌾 Maybe you noticed or maybe not... but my eggs recently have been pretty pale. 😱 My normal egg guy was sold out by the time that I got to the market so I bought from a different vendor who claimed their eggs were from pasture-raised chickens. 🐓 Definitely not! Did you know that cage-free hens typically never go outside? The only difference is that they don’t live in cages. 😭 You can definitely tell a difference between “cage-free” and “pasture-raised” in taste and color. And as a non-vegan, I feel better eating animal products that come from happier animals. 🙌🏼 Now I know that I will only be buying pasture-raised eggs from my favorite local egg guy OR from @vitalfarms like I did on Monday for this spread!

I spent five hours today sitting on my butt writing for school and there was not a cell in my body that wanted to pack an actual lunch so I just brought all of my favorite snacks to @starbucks. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 People ask me all the time what I eat in between meals and usually it’s a couple of things from this assortment... and sometimes it’s all of these things in one day. 💻 A snacky lunch definitely makes me less crabby when I can’t find the data I want to support my argument.
