Hey Ottawa! Today is the Natsu Matsuri Festival. You'll want to pop down and see our visiting blacksmith Masashi before he heads off back to Japan. He'll be doing a blacksmithing demo and we'll be on hand with a pop up shop. Hope to see you there!

A perennial favourite, the Masakage Koishi 170mm bunka is a multi-purpose kitchen knife. It’s great for dicing, slicing or mincing. “Bunka” translates to “culture.” Like a santoku, it's a cross between the nakiri and a gyuto, just a little more badass looking. ($277)

Give the dollar store scissors a pass and grab a pair of thee separable shears. Gracelove kitchen scissors (middle) are the Swiss Army knife of scissors, everything from a bottle opener to fish scaler. ($25-$29). Tojiro Inox (bottom, black handle) and pro (top, silver handle) shears have a solid metal frame that can last for years. You may never need another pair ($51-$98).

Sandy at the Calgary store was stoked about Masashi coming to visit so she got herself one of his SLD Damascus nakiri ($350). She also took this gorgeous photo of it for her food blog, @chubbyfingersblog, which you should check out! Nice one, Sandy!

Our official guitar specialist, Yuji Ihara ripping it up with the chopstick guitar.

The Swiss have the Army Knife, Japan has the Higo. It may not have a toothpick, screwdriver or nail file, but what it does have is no-nonsense cutting power. It's also inexpensive. Small, medium or large are $22, $25 and $28 respectively.

Waterstones are the perfect tool for maintaining your knives, and what maintains your stones? This line up does! A truing stone (behind) is essential in keeping your stones flat, a Nagura stone (front left) is used to prepare the surface of finishing stones, (3000 grit and above) and finally a Kuro Nagura (right) gently cleans your natural stone of steel without removing much material from the stone. ($34, $19, and $63 respectively)

If you happen to be near Lethbridge on Saturday, you can see a demo by the blacksmith that made this knife at 10am at the Nikka Yuko Gardens. We'll also be on hand, selling his knives. Masashi Damascus SLD santoku: $350.10  Normally $389, all of Masashi's knives are 10% off for the month of July! For more info on his visit, see the link in our bio.

The #bcwildfires are displacing our neighbours and doing a ton of damage. The least we can do is lend a hand. Bring in whatever needs sharpening to Knifewear or Kent of Inglewood and 100% of the proceeds will go to the BC #RedCross Fire Appeal!

Now this is a collection! Masakage Yukis, Moritaka Ishime, looks like a Masakage Mizu, Fujimoto Nashiji... even a @wetterlingsaxes. Niiiice. #Repost @shitfuckfred (@get_repost)
