Getting out for a hike today was a challenge. The packing up. The endless snacks. The trips to the potty. The extra diapers, extra raisins, extra socks. Wait...where are all the socks? And he needs shoes! What bag is the sunscreen in? We need gas. And lunch on the run. And I was awake ten times last night. So a coffee for the road would be appreciated. And Pearl needs to nurse before we go, (and she’s hardly napped today)... maybe we should forget it. It’s already 1:30. Dinner will be late. What if it’s cloudy when we get there? Do we have coats? And don’t forget Rexton’s bucket so he can can pick berries on the trail. And what about the dog? Where’s his harness? Found it. It stinks like wet dog. Got a poop bag? Okay, now it’s 2:00. Forget it. The backyard is good enough for today.
But...somehow... we made it out of the house. Piled into the van.
As we merged onto the highway, a realization that we forgot the hiking backpack. That’s critical gear. Go back? Nah. He likes your shoulders better anyways.
We drive. What exit do we take? Park here? I see the trailhead. Baby on back. Hats on heads. Go.
And as soon as we are on the trail...it’s perfect.
Fresh air. And nowhere to be.
Our happy place. To just walk. And talk. And spend time as a family.
Grateful for that. Always. #momlife #raisethemwild #hikeitbaby #getoutside #outdoorfamily #newfoundland @eastcoasttrail #eastcoasttrail #bestlife #toddlersofinstagram #honestmotherhood @hikeitbaby
