My dad turned 80 today. Raised in San Diego he then spent 25 years in the Navy, including serving during the Vietnam War. He's one of the hardest workers I know and always told me to just try my best at everything, and never give up. When he set his mind to something he would accomplish it. During his time in the Navy he decided to take up running and (unlike the times I've attempted to take up running) he went on to run 10 marathons, including the Boston Marathon. During my childhood years my friends might have found him to be a bit intimidating due to his quiet and serious nature, but when he hit the dance floor at my wedding they got to see another side of him. A side that I've always loved. He's never been too concerned about what others think of him, and says things like they are, which is something I respect. Most importantly, he always offered me unconditional love and forgiveness, even when I didn't deserve it.
You've always been someone I can count on. I love you dad. Happy Birthday!
