At first, the roof racks were designed for holding luggage onto a car roof, but they soon introduced bars for sports and trades people. Through the ‘60s and 70’s, under the direction of Neville Kennard, the ‘Kennards Car Roof Racks’ business was a great success.
Walter’s son, and Neville’s brother, Andy Kennard, describes the original racks as, “…resting on the roof with suction caps and held down with screw clamps under the gutter. These were then replaced gutter mounted racks”.
