We live in a world that preaches inclusion but only if you agree with the ones preaching.
We are not supportive. We are judgemental.
In a world full of social media that shows us how perfect everyone is, we find ourselves anything but.
We are not positive. We are negative.
We are not happy. We are insecure more than ever.
It is not healthy.
Do you know what the trolling and body shaming tells me about those who do it?
It tells me they're the most insecure of us all, and sheltered on top of that. After the hypocrisy makes me angry it makes me sad.
These two pictures are maybe a couple weeks apart. Sometimes I see bigger changes in my lean mass and body fat in that amount of time than others. Sometimes from one week or two to the next I go from full 6 pack and some leg definition to a little muffin top like.
I can tell you I'm not as lean as I was this past summer and fall. My weight change is negligible, 5 ish lbs here or there, it comes and goes depending on A LOT of variables, but my body fat is higher than it has been.
But you know what! The scale does not mean fit or healthy.
At my leanest I was 128lb and 15% body fat. I loved it. I was happy and looked better than ever. But that isn't an easy body fat percentage to maintain.
I used a Bod Pod to test my body fat 3 times last year. These are my results.
1) February: 19.9% at 128lb
2) June: 18.4% at 128lb
3) August: 15.4% at 129lb
February was before my first powerlifting meet. June was before a cruise. August was before my second powerlifting meet. I wasn't trying to drop body fat. I was training longer and harder than I ever had to get stronger than I had ever been. (Which I was btw.)
Today, right now, I'm 129. Probably up more around the 19 to 20% body fat mark.
Yes, I do feel better when I'm leaner, but I don't love myself any less because I'm not as lean.
Love the F $#*K out of yourself. Even when, especially when, you feel less than perfect.
Perfect is one of the most subjective words in our vocabulary. Define it how you want and don't listen to anyone else!
