She didn’t look like this when I knew her. In fact, she looked the same my entire life. She was crowned with snow white hair, wore glasses that were sometimes in style and carried one single navy shoulder bag. ✨
But this picture. This one has always been my favorite. The smile. The pearls. The soft yellow sweater. Perfection, just like her. ✨
The picture is dated 1941. I didn’t know her then. But, I imagine that version of her had a heart of 24 karat too. Forty-four years later, that same heart welcomed me into her arms and home when a-few-days-old Kel didn’t seem to have anywhere else to go. This women saved me, loved me, changed me. ✨
I always asked why she and my grandpa raised me, and she would always sweetly say, “I don’t know Kel, we just wanted you.” It still doesn’t make sense, but I’m forever grateful she wanted me. ✨
