To put it lightly, Keep A Child Alive is no stranger to the #PowerOfWomen. We’re enormously grateful to be led by such a lionhearted figure as the one and only @aliciakeys, who launched this organization 16 years ago.
.
In that vein, we’re thrilled (but not surprised!) to congratulate you, Alicia, on being recognized by Variety as one of their 2018 Power of Women honorees!
.
Y’all, throw your love and snaps to our fearless leader in the comments! ✨

#RestInPower, Winnie Mandela — a warrior for social justice shining your fearless light on the intersection of sexism and racism, and being a true advocate for oppressed people. You sacrificed so much to help bring an end to the apartheid regime. We will be forever grateful — and your existence will inspire generations to come.
.
“If you are to free yourselves, you must break the chains of oppression yourselves. Only then can we express our dignity, only when we have liberated ourselves can we co-operate with other groups. Any acceptance of humiliation, indignity, or insult is acceptance of inferiority.” - #WinnieMandela

On this #TransDayOfVisibility, we celebrate and stand in solidarity with the global trans community. Today is an opportunity to highlight the gross inequalities that we together face - calling these forms of injustice out is the only way to tear them down.
.
There are many reasons for these staggering numbers. Legal, economic, and social exclusion that are embedded in systems around the world: 60% of countries don’t even address transgender people in their national HIV strategies.
.
India, where a few of KCA’s programs are based, is in many ways leading the way for other countries; though they, too, have a long way to go as their trans community continues to face huge societal obstacles such as poverty and lack of education. However, they do reach an estimated 83% if the transgender population with resources to combat the spread and effects of HIV, and have officially recognized a third gender - “hijras.”

Have we mentioned lately how incredible our community is? Monique has singlehandedly raised almost 💰💰FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS 💰💰as a member of our #AIDSWalkNY 6 years in a row. Because of committed supporters like her, and our team leader @jessicaltl, we're excited to announce that we're back in action for our 1️⃣2️⃣th year!
.
Please reach out if you're interested in walking with us, and support our team if you can: https://ny.aidswalk.net/Team/View/59259/Keep-a-Child-Alive-9872

Repost @egotripster:
"This is my 7th year with over $38,000 raised for Keep a Child Alive from people like you who have supported my efforts year after year. We ran into some snags this year getting our annual AidsWalk going, but its officially up. I have only a few weeks to reach my lofty goal.
If you once again have it in your heart, please consider a donation. $1.00 a day helps a child sustain life and provides food and medicine for those suffering with the disease in Africa and India.

Use your voice, use your time and use your resources to make an impact!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR
SUPPORT!!!"

We are so inspired and motivated by ALL of the young leaders who are fighting for social change across the United States. Here at KCA, we know that young people around the world have always been at the epicenter of social change. We also know that youth activism can lead to adults who continue to fight for social change in their communities, countries and all over the world.
.
Mum Carol, the Founder and Executive Director of @ikageng_wecare, KCA's partner in Johannesburg, became an activist as a student during the Soweto uprising in the 1970's. Before she founded Ikageng, Mum Carol spent most of her youth and young adulthood fighting for racial justice in South Africa during apartheid.
.
Today, Mum Carol makes her mark as a fierce advocate for children's rights. Her organization provides services and support to children in Soweto who've been orphaned by or affected by AIDS, as well as young people living with HIV. Many of Ikageng's children live in child-headed households, where they take on the role of parent and look after younger siblings.
.
Mum Carol knows these kids. Their existence is what drives her. And she knows that they're the key to a better future: "I know and I'm certain that HIV/AIDS will be beaten, that young people will march to a different drumbeat."

🚴🏾‍♀️ join team KCA for the @bikenewyork #FiveBoroBikeTour! We’ve got limited spots left, and general registration closed in January. This is your last chance to take on the greatest city on earth on two wheels beside 32,000 other cyclists, with no cars, spanning all 5 boroughs. The best part: if you ride with us, you’ll also be supporting our programs around the world that support the needs of children, young people, and families living with HIV.

This incredible cartoon was created by artist @joshcochran for this year’s race 😍

As of 2016, an estimated 36.7 million people were living with HIV around the world - and 1.8 million people were newly infected with the virus.
.
Our challenge to you today: Tag one person who you want to know that this fight is far from over, and join us in the fight. #MondayMotivation

#FBF: Oh, do we love our community! Pictured here: Our Senior Program Advisor, Alana, alongside the incredible @hope_dealer21 and our longtime supporter @creativesoul68, who stopped by our office together in 2016.
.
This is a testament to Chris' spirit: For five years now, he has organized the @bethechange_philly on behalf of KCA. And every year, we've seen an increase in support and turnout. With the recent cuts to global HIV/AIDS funding from the U.S. government, your support of our work is more crucial than ever - no matter how big or small. This year, the event will be held on April 21st – can we count on you to show up & #BeTheChange?
