@kidlitexchange #partner 📚 Thank you to the @kidlitexchange network for providing me with a review copy of the biographical picture book Noah Webster’s Fighting Words written by Tracy Nelson Maurer and illustrated by Mircea Catusanu.

Everyone has heard of Webster’s Dictionary, but very few of us know the story of the man behind the words, Noah Webster. This delightfully funny and educational picture book biography tells the story of how Noah Webster used his love of language to create the first-ever American dictionary.

The dynamic mixed media art practically jumps off the page. The illustrations include collage-style artwork that incorporates excerpts of 18th-century newspapers and some of Noah’s own handwritten letters. This book is as entertaining as it is informative, and is an excellent choice for either a home or classroom library. I recommend Noah Webster’s Fighting Words for ages 7-11.

In honor of #WorldReadAloudDay I thought I’d share one of my family’s most frequent bedtime stories, Julia’s House for Lost Creatures by Ben Hatke (@heybenhatke). When Julia moves to a quiet seaside town, she soon finds it to be a bit *too* quiet, so she puts up a sign inviting lost and homeless creatures to come and stay. The house fills up with a menagerie of creatures, including mermaids, goblins, and trolls, but Julia’s housemates soon become too unruly for her handle! We’ve had this book for almost a year and I never get tired of it. The story is entertaining, the art is beautiful, and Julia is a resourceful, spirited heroine that lights up the page. #picturebooks #childrensbooks #worldreadaloudday2018

Today was the third morning in a row that my daughter woke me up by coming into my room and shouting, "Wake up, Mommy! It's Christmastime!" We can't get enough Christmas in this house, so naturally very I'm excited that it's finally December and tonight we get to start her new Crayola Advent Calendar! Are you doing an advent calendar with your kids this year? #adventcalendar #advent #christmas #crayola

Huge thanks to the @kidlitexchange network for giving me the chance to preview this book! After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) by Caldecott Medalist @dsantat is the story of what happened to Humpty Dumpty after his famous fall. This poignant story goes well beyond a typical fractured fairy tale and delivers an emotional message about handling and overcoming fear following a traumatic experience. The superb artwork and relatable story make this book a must-read that deserves a spot on any shelf! #kidlitexchange #picturebook #currentlyreading
