Yesterday I got quite the ego check. I thought because I was lighter and stronger than I was in the spring that I "should" just PR my mile time. I thought "I've been working on speed all year, so it won't be that big of a deal." "I don't have to warm up, I'm totally fine," 😑 Well, my mile time was 1 second slower than March. After all that work. Work? I didn't work on mile PR speed at all! I focused on foundational footwork and efficiency. Cadence and long distance exposure! Why on Earth would I think I was supposed to PR something I hadn't focused on?
Pick what's important. Do that. Over and over. Show up to practice on Monday. Even in the cold. Then show up again. Again and again.
