Ever been penalised for missing a flight? πŸ˜†

@officialkenyaairways decided to be cute and charged me 150 USD in penalties for missing my flight to Lagos from Dar es Salaam. 100 USD to uplift the suspended ticket and 50 USD for changing the flight date. Hata sikuskia vibaya. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Also, I hope that 150 USD helps reduce their 4 billion half-year reported financial loss πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ (Read more) On the blog today ''Never to be forgotten Travel moments from Lagos, Nigeria"

Do you love festivals?
This is my second time in jinja and second time in Uganda this year

I'm here for the #nyegenyege festival. Nyege has a total different meaning in Kenya and you should see the comments I have gotten so far from saying I'm at the Nyege Nyege festival πŸ˜‚ Fun fact : I've been to Uganda five times.
You know my first request when I arrived was to ask for a rolex (not the watch, rolex is food here) and a cold glass of nile. Okay. It was a whole bottle.

Love the photobomb from the river Nile.

P. S watch my instastories for more stories from #nyegenyege festival πŸ”₯

I've gotten new subscribers to my blog's mailing list from my social media pages so I thought it would be nice to re introduce myself with a few random facts about Rioba:

My name is Rioba.... Not Roiba 😩or Robia 😫
During work weeks, you will find me working as an analyst in Finance. Otherwise I will be writing on justrioba.com or exploring #Africa. I write for those that want to balance traveling and a full-time job.
I was born and raised in Nairobi. I am the first born of three. I helped my mama raise my two brothers πŸ˜‚ good times Y'all πŸ˜‚ 🌍
I took my first trip outside of Kenya to Uganda at the age of 12 with my mom and siblings.
I majored in Economics and History . I am also a Certified Public Accountant. (don't even try with the accountant jokes, I've heard them all πŸ˜‚)
Although I had travelled to some places before. I started traveling seriously and documenting my experiences in 2016. I’ve been to 17 African countries, 10 of them alone and my travel goal is to travel to all African countries before I hit 30 hopefully.
I'm terrible with directions which is funny because I travel alone sometimes.
My superpower is eating without gaining weight πŸ˜‚. Seriously, I am 50 Kgs, yet I eat what I want, when I want. I am forced to believe all the food I eat goes to my hair and my pregnant cheeks. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚
I’m 5’7, and I curse from time to time. I also wear braces🌍
I am scared shitless of height, water, and speed which is ironical because I have skydived before, taken a microlight flight over Victoria Falls, swam at the edge of Victoria Falls, gone water rafting at Sagana and been on one of the fastest roller coasters in the world.

Why is it when a man travels the society presumes he's rich but when it's a woman it's assumed there's a man either a a sponsor/blesser or rich dad funding her trips? β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
This question is what triggered one of my recent post on justrioba.com... '' stop asking who sponsors my travels''

Do you ever wonder how travelers take such amazing photos?

Peep justrioba.com to find out how you can take stunning #travel pictures. '' I want to look back at my travel pictures with admiration. Not the way I look at my 2012 travel pictures. I cringe every time I look at those pictures. Everything was off from the lighting, the eyebrows (why do we shave our eyebrows again? ) and the fashion.Β  Oh, the fashion was so terrible that fashion cop bashed me on the newspaper (a story for another day). I’m still salty about that although I’m sure I had never heard of the word fashion back then'' πŸ˜‚. #justriobainNigeria πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

Sometimes travel doesn't have to be thousands of kilometres away. All you need is a plan and a car. Or a #matatu because eh. We are not letting not having a car stop us from seeing this beautiful universe now. Are we?

Have you been to Nigeria?

What I liked most about Lagos : The energy and confidence of Lagosians is unmatched. I also liked the danfos and the Ankara that made the state bright.

What shocked me: the amount of pepper in the food. Ever eaten so much pepper your nose became hollow and your stomach gets mini heart attacks? 😭😭 That was Asum and Kilishi for me. Nigerians also take their food seriously..they have a multitude of cuisine to chose from. Any foodie would love Nigeria.

What I can't get over: the fact that Nigerians eat snails 😩😭 but why? 😭😭 What I disliked: the concept of '' taking the light'' up to three times a day. I couldn't get used to the sound of generators. Also, I'm never calling out KPLC again. They are angels πŸ˜‚

Ever been on a game drive and seen Zebras ''hugging''? All the Zebras we saw were in this position and we found it endearing.

Turns out its a survival mechanism for them to be able to see predators from either side of the plain. #survivalforthefittest

Also, are you really Kenyan if you haven't been on a #gamedrive before? πŸ€”
