Sunset over the ruines castle of Valkenburg. The castle was blown up by order of Stadtholder William III of Orange on 6 December 1672. Otherwise, the fortress would remain a threat as a base to attack Maastricht.
View down Cape of Good Hoop, South-Africa. The cape isn't the southern tip of Africa, that is Cape Agulhas. This misconception is due this is the point were ships travel more eastward than southward. Therefor the Dutch thought it was the south point of Africa. They made a resupply camp 50km north in Table Bay on 6 April 1652 for the ships of the V.O.C.
During the day you can visit the Mariënburg Chapel to learn about the Nijmegen history, the oldest city of the Netherlands. Nijmegen is more than 2000 years old. In the night this chapel is beautiful illuminated as you can see on the picture!
