Throwback to when we made Ethiopia’s very first Russian Bar act with my ex in Coffs Harbour, Australia. Emmanuel also performed the first triple somersault to ever be performed by an Ethiopian. It took six month of gruelling training, they lived in our home and each day we made them do Russian Bar, Trampolining, Dance classes and worked the choreography in their routine. Patrick Rosseel and Marti created magic with the lighting for our act, they appeared to be walking out of a beautiful clouded swamp from some mystical world. It was magic.
Sadly he broke his arm during rehearsals performing the triple in Spain in 2009 and the act was unable to compete.
This act is what brought me to Ethiopia for the first time, As I had to replace our injured flyer and create a Icarian act with them for Cirque Dreams at MGM Casino in Reno. It was on that trip that I met Rich Metiku for the first time and worked on her first solo act. Later I flew Rich to Singapore, where she lived with me, whilst we prepared her act for the festival in Spain, where she won bronze. She’s now the headliner at Moulin Rouge and competed in Monte Carlo. I’m so proud of her.
The rest is history... It’s been an interesting ride with my love of Ethiopia, difficult, yet rewarding.. However, there is some kind of magnet that seems to always pull me back there. I later went back again with @sosina_wogayehu to run masterclasses and built a trio hand to hand act, amongst other things. Ethiopia remains in my heart, stamped forever. #russianbar #circus #actcreation #circusactcreation #cirquegram #circuseverywhere #circuseverydamnday #circo #cirque
