When I was in high school, I would only listen to punk rock or hip hop in public...you know, to maintain what I thought was a tough persona. But, when driving my mom's Toyota Corolla by myself, I would listen to The Cranberries, and sing along with every word on the entire album...in a female's vocal register. Singing along with Dolores O'Riordan taught my voice to do things I never knew it could, and her songs reached out and touched a punk kid in the confusion of adolescence. Today Dolores O'riordan died at 46, but I'll forever be grateful for the song and voice she brought into the world 🙌🏻. (If you're unfamiliar with The Cranberries go and listen to their 1994 release "No Need To Argue" from start to finish--it's one of my favorite albums of all time).
