Cape Hauy, Tasman National, Park Tasmania

Lauded as one of Tasmania’s best day walks, the 4.4km (one way) trek down to Cape Hauy is absolutely amazing visual feast for a photographer such as myself. Whilst the intial walk through the scrub doesn’t have much in terms of scenery, once you hit the coast you are greeted with 360° views of the stunning and ridiculously steep dolerite cliffs. Whilst I didn’t see any climbers during my time along the track (most likely due to it being very windy), they do ascend these ridiculously steep sections of the coastline and have even nicknamed some of the pillars with names such as ‘Totem Pole’ and ‘Candlestick’. This shot was taken hand held on the edge of these spectacular dolerite cliffs, not a place for those with a fear of heights!

Cape Hauy, Tasmania

I found this little guy feeding and hopping around in the carpark at the start of the Cape Hauy walk in Forescue Bay in South-East Tasmania. He/She was extremely tame and didn’t mind my presence at all and as such I was able to get up very close and take a few photos. -----------------------------------------------------

Secret Falls, Tasmania

So what’s the big secret behind Secret Falls? Honestly, there is none, at least not anymore. Whilst this might have previously been the haunt of a few people willing to bush bash through the surrounding scrub to explore the unreached areas of Wellington Park it is now easily found by the makeshift paths cut by countless individuals who have seen or heard about these falls via social media. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing, and this topic was already covered previously by the guys on @projectrawcast for this exact location, but it’s worth considering our impact on the surrounding landscape in an effort to get that perfect shot. ------------------------------------------------------------

This time, three years ago I completed what has to be quite possibly the best experience of my entire life to date. I took the plunge and spent 3.5 months travelling to 20 different countries throughout Europe, all done solo. Whilst it was daunting at first, I quickly grew to love the pursuit of the unexpected and the unknown. The experiences that I had during this time will stay with me forever and is something that I would recommend to anyone who is considering traveling overseas. Even if you can’t find someone to go with you, take the plunge, I guarantee you will make so many new friends and you will always treasure that experience.
In order to document some of my travels I made this video showcasing just some of the many places that I visited during my time overseas. In closing I’ll leave you with a quote that spurred me to undertake this trip, and has inspired me to continue to travel and explore ever since. ‘The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page’ – Saint Augstine.

Red Knoll Lookout, Southwest National Park, Tasmania

On one of my few days off I decided to head into the remote south west of Tasmania. This shot was taken at Red Knoll Bluff, at the end of Scott’s Peak Road, which passes through the beautiful Southwest National Park. The light shafts that I captured in this shot created an ethereal atmosphere throughout the surrounding landscape that was made all the more magical with how fleeting a moment it was. This entire scene was engulfed in cloud not 10 minutes after I arrived. Just goes to show that you want to explore as often as you can to ensure you don’t miss awesome displays like this. -----------------------------------------------------

Bellerive, Tasmania

Having finished work in Hobart early on a Friday, I had headed to the nearby Rosny Hill Lookout for sunset. However with the clouds quickly coming in the setting sun was engulfed, leading to conditions not really worth taking photos. As such I headed down to Bellerive and whilst walking around near coast I found this pier. As it was starting to get dark and the lights of the city were starting to come on I decided to take this shot. -----------------------------------------------------

Gordon River Road, Florentine, Tasmania

On my way to Strathgordon Dam from Hobart, I drove into a snowstorm that was blowing through. Seeing snow fall is such an awesome experience, primarily as it’s in such a stark contrast to rain, which is hard and loud, snow is light and fluffy and just seems to float through the air. And being in the middle of nowhere it was completely silent making for an amazingly beautiful and peaceful moment that I was so happy that I got to experience. ------------------------------------------------------------

Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania

Another closer shot of the bioluminescence I was whilst down in Tasmania.

Having heard about and seen photos of bioluminescent algae along the beach at Eaglehawk Neck, I decided to take the one-hour drive from Hobart after work one day to check it out. I initially drove past the beach upon arrival as I didn’t know exactly where it was, but after some searching I found it. Whilst not as bright as I’ve seen it in other’s photographs it was truly an amazing sight to see. Having set my tripod up on the beach I disturbed the water on the shoreline by throwing in sand and walking along the shore to cause the algae to light up.

Mount Buffalo, Victoria

Located just outside of the popular nearby town of Bright, 350km from Melbourne, in Victoria’s alpine region, Mount Buffalo National Park is one of Australia’s oldest national parks with the founding date stretching back to 1898. The winding 35km Mt Buffalo Road snakes its way through the mountains through the mountainous region past stunning scenery on its way to ‘The Horn’, the highest point within the park and lookout offering uparalled 360° views of the National Park. This shot was taken on ‘The Hump’, a rocky ridgeline with beautiful views of the entire park. The rocky formation seen in the frame is known as ‘The Cathedral’ illuminated by the early morning sun. ------------------------------------------------------------
